Things in boxing change in the blink of an eye: fighters can become stars or get old all in one fight.

When a fighter wins or loses that affects the perception of everyone he fights. ie-paulie M. looked like an average fighter after losing to Cotto, then after we saw how good Cotto truely was, Paulie's loss to him suddenly did not seem so bad.

I would say not unless you've totally focused on that fighter or have predictive powers like nostradamus a casual boxing fan would sway his opinions on fighters. I for one has doubted PAC and Cotto on the early parts of their career because of their chins, but does that make me lesser of a fan.

Just like CMM had said (let me paraphrased him)....... it brings pride in us to have hurdled so many oppositions and critics against our fighter.

Am just happy that I don't have to debate anymore about Pac.
Yup, that is why I just take most comments about PAC with a grain of salt, and Mang Tomas Take care Pare!!

I always defended his chin which is what everyone questioned and still question to this day.

From the first time I saw Cotto I liked his style and saw his potential...I didn't know how good he was going to be but hell even if he was another gatti he'd have a large fanbase because he's a brawler

I remember thinking Cotto would fade away and Bojado would be the one to tear through the ranks.

He was helping training a very young mexican fighter Moses, that was doing great over the boarder and was second to the golden gloves last year, they recon they could take it off him.

They found every fault in the book in him, and were reluctant to rate him anywhere near the top 10 p4p. Lousy chin, lousy defense, slow, robotic, etc, etc, etc. A few months and some impressive victories later, Cotto's one of the favorite fighters in the forum.

Same goes for Margarito. Only a few diehard fans expressed their "fandom" of Margarito back then. All of a sudden, it seems... everyone is singing Margarito's praises. Obviously, his total destruction of the dangerous Kermit Cintron was a huge factor.

So does that make us knowledgeable? Or fickle? I think the former. That's the beauty of boxing. As fighters mature and get huge fights under their belts, we tend to change our opinions and our preferences.

I just hope that whoever loses on July 26th all of a sudden doesn't become a bum.

I wouldn't say fickle in the least. Cotto proved he was becoming a better fighter by taking on and beating fighters like Zab Judah and Shane Mosley. Those uppercuts from Judah looked harder than anything Torres threw at him so Team Cotto had was onto something when they said it was the weight that was the problem.

I knew he was a talent but the chin and his lack of footwork and ability to box behind a jab always made me think he would be just a regular champion.

He is atleast 50% better at 147 than he was at 140lbs, Cotto is a great fighter and i admit even until Mosley i had my doubts.
