What do solar panels have to do with global warming? I think I was referring to renewable energy that we don't have to depend on anyone else for. Just like Michael Moore I've learned to put Gore's comments in proper context.

Oil IS renewable, if it wasn't we'd be out of it and not finding MORE of it.


As for Carter...did he do better or worse than Ford The numbers and the American people say WORSE, it doesn't matter how or what Carter's policies were or what they affected those numbers show that Carter's policies didn't work

I won't fight you on Carter. He was prez when I was born and I always heard he sucked. And oil is not renewable. There is a finite amount even if we haven't found most of it yet. The Earth is only so big and oil isn't growing, it's just setting where ever and we're drinking it up. Besides, renewable or not, demand has increased and thus price. Tapping offshore reserves only insures more money for oil companies and not reserves for only Americans to use and be able to get on the cheap. China drives the price up by coming out the pocket to whomever has it and those American oil companies getting it offshore would just as likely sell it to them as to us. We need to shift to resources, whatever they may be, that are less effected by supply-and-demand principles, create more diversity in the marketplace by taking our eggs out of one basket that is oil and begin to learn how to live with less. If I had the dough I'd love to have my house fitted with solar panels. I heard Ian McKellan say he sells electricity back to the utility company. Our American mentality of consuming without awareness of the effects or side effects has to end.

Oil is a natural substance and was made before humans were here and various gases and substances are found on other planets which have (we can assume) never sustained life and therefore this idea that oil is made up of fossils is kind of silly.


We have more oil on this earth than we can use in my lifetime and I plan on living a while....I mean if we really buckled down and used more everyday then MAYBE we'd hit a couple bumps in the road due to the refining process but there's plenty oil out there.

The problem with that thinking is you leave it to someone else down the line to deal with. Sure we have enough, but if we remain dependent on it when it does go into short supply then the prices rocket through the roof and industry becomes crippled. And think about what has happened to gas prices while we've had enough. In 1997 I paid (however briefly) $.70 per gallon and could fill up my tank for less than $10. A little over a decade later and we've crept over $4. With sky high demand that will only increase in the coming years you really don't think we need to do anything to diversify where we get our energy from?

Jesus Lyle, first off you deny that global warming is real and now your saying that crude oil isn't what scientists have confirmed it is hundreds of years ago?

Oil is made from the rotted remains of live material millions of years ago.
When these live materials died and under unique atmospeheric changes, they were compressed to different substances.

Underwater remains were compressed to make sedimentary rock.
Underground remains were rotted and compressed to become oil.

Simple as.

How do you explain methane being one of the main gases found on Venus? Methane is a main component of Natural Gas...yet that is also called a "fossil fuel"....ergo there would have to be fossils on Venus and that would mean there would have to have been life on Venus.

Crude oil is just a chain of hydrocarbons as are methane, ethane, butane, etc and those gases can be found on other planets in our solar system, planets I might add that never had life on them that we know of.


What live materials would make up oil? Dinosaurs? Bugs? Plants? Whatever it was there would have had to have been a lot of it because there's a ton of oil....so I think it's easier to consider oil as being made abiotically but I don't reckon I'll win that arguement since everyone's minds are already made up.
