Good interview but he better get busy if he wants to hold titles in 3 weightclasses cause by the time he gets to one at 160 they'll have him striped of his 147 strap. also he should feel lucky he didn't get pavlik i'm pretty sure he would got ko'd.

Haha he thinks he's Homicide Hank. I quite like Williams but he should feel lucky he didn't get the Pavlik fight. Pavlik is a world class middleweight that punches like a lightheavy. No offence intended toward Williams but I just don't think he would be able to stand up to Pavliks punches. Infact I expect Pavlik to hand Hopkins his first KO and hopefully then he'll realise its time to retire.
He sure sounds like a respectful young guy.
I like Williams; and though I give him props for wanting the Pavlik fight and his willingness to get in there with the Ghost, at this time he should probably be thankful it didn't happen.
Pav would have knocked the wheels off him. He needs to take baby steps up in weight, regardless of if he fought at MW before. And Willie McDonald and Gary Grant were no Pavlik. He hasn't fought there in a while and that's a big transistion jumping up from WW to MW to fight the #1 guy.
He should been thankful because if he would of fought Kelly Pavlik he would of been leaving the arena on a stretcher.
I liked that interview.
But I still feel Pavlik is a horrible idea for him.

I'm not sure how horrible of a matchup it is actually. I think Pavlik would win because conventional wisdom says so, but the style match up would actually work in Williams' favor imo.
I still think that if Pavlik is going to be beat, it's not going to be someone who goes punch for punch standing in front of him, it's going to be because someone outworks him with their feet. Taylor did it to an extent in the second fight but Taylor is a proud guy who I think was looking to dispell critics and stood in front of Pavlik to much. But when he was moving, he was winning rounds and slowing Kelly's output.
Paul Williams versus Margarito really worked him over with movement. I don't think he gets near as much credit for that win. People say that it was just a case of Margarito not starting early enough, completely disagree. I think it was a case of Margarito not being able to keep up with Williams' movement and only when Williams got flat footed did Margarito come on. Not to compare them to much but Margarito and Pavlik have the same weakness imo, that they are both guys who work in straight lines with relatively slow feet. Also, Williams would be able to match Pavlik punch for punch as far as output just like he did Margarito. I'm not saying he would win but he would do a lot better then most people think.
I don't get why Williams is so hated. It seems no one likes him, I've always been a fan and picked him against Margarito. But it just seems odd that he gets the flack that he does for seemingly no reason. He's a good fighter, a good guy and a champion. I hope he does move up because if Cotto wins, I don't like that style match up for him.
Where I see the problems is with Wlliams defence.
He could surely make a fight awkward with his southpaw style, but when under pressure at welter he has always responded to punches at welter by trading and throwing at a greater volume, forcing his opponent to relent.
In the only other display of defence I canm recall he used some hands up, earmuffs against Margarito.
Should he trade with Kelly he gets hurt and even if all he uses is the hands up, Kelly is the kind of puncher that hurts forearms and and shoulders and elbows.
Williams just hasn't shown the physical capacity yet and unfortunately in modern boxing, where both fighters train to their optimum level, awkwardness and evasion is not enough to overcome huge physical disadvantages.
Puls movement is good, but Pavlik has a great capacity for cutting down a ring.
