I know that Jeff had a bad night on Wednesday, but I sure didn't see this coming.
Maybe he's saying it in the heat of the moment.

St. Pete's Lacy Says He Is Retiring
Taylor has no excuses now to face Froch.
Actually this doesn't come as a surprise. The guy knows what he has left to give and may just feel he has nothing left that will be big enough to make a stamp at the top.
A shame really because I really like Lacy but it really has been an uphill struggle since Calzaghe. He's not had the best of fortune and if he is struggling to beat Manfredo then he really isnt ready to face Taylor.
This is probably a very sensible decision. I wish him all the best.
I was hoping to see more of Jeff Lacy even though he is a shot fighter he still is entertaining and is a good guy to root for but if he does retire respect to him because it takes alot of will power to stop doing something you love doing it is a shame if he retires but he knows himself what he is feeling inside and none of us can judge him.
Thats all I can say... Truly a sad day for me, my top 2 fighters retireing a month apart..
I rather see Lacy go like this then get brutally defeated and embarassed... I think Floyd Mayweather sr would have been perfect for Jeff a real down to earth guy with defensive prowess and technique
Just plain gutted and crushed![]()
I'm was getting afraid of what Taylor would do to Lacy. I mean he looked good early, but as soon as he got hurt he went wild and lost all his composure against Mendoza.
Froch has a good set of fresh legs under him and would be a much better opponent for Taylor. It will also be a good test to see where Taylor stands at this point.

In my Chris Penn voice, "No here's the news, no one is ducking Froch."

I doubt he is really retired, just probably tired of hearing "he's never been the same since the Calzaghe fight." There is a lot of negativity among boxing fans and critics alike when you bring up the name Jeff Lacy and things like that can take its toll.
Jeff is a good guy, I hate that he jumped to the big leagues too soon but he gave his all and if he stays retired I wish him the best.
I like Lacy but he's been hurt and he's getting older, he's more than likely frustrated at the way his career has gone as are his fans who along with the Taylor fans were always wanting to see them fight.
Taylor could take on any number of guys at 168...I think he's a good fighter and he's going to keep making noise in 168 and even 175
