Default MY Drunken Thoughts on Cotto/Margarito

Let me put out a disclaimer on hopefully this statement makes sense. I am approximately 7 shots of bellevidere vodka, 6 bottles of Blue Moon, 2 Bottles of Yuenling Black and Tan, a Wendy's Large chilli, and a Cheddar, Broccoli, and Bacon Baked Potato DEEP!!!

First off, let me say I enjoyed my night prior to the fight. Good times, good drinks, good friends. The fight itself made me enjoy my night even more! Either way, let me get to it...

PRE-FIGHT: As soon as the fight was signed I immediately thought, "WOW! What a fight this is going to be!" Then as time passed on, I realized that Cotto was going to have an easier time than expected. Then came the HBO countdown, and again, it swayed me toward a Cotto win.

I predicted a Cotto UD due to his superior boxing skills and that Margarito had never seen the big stage yet, while Cotto on the other hand, has been there before.

DURING THE FIGHT: From round 1 I kept yelling at Miguel, "STAY OFF THE ROPES!"
Even though Miguel was easily winning the fight early on, the fact that he was inviting Margarito to come in was not exactly a smart idea. Cotto did a great job of outboxing, and landing at will. PLUS! Early on, it seemed like Margarito couldn't land a clean uppercut cause Cotto was prepared for it. Even up til the end of the fight, Cotto was able to land the more clean/flush shots, and seemed to land the last punch (not to mention, HARD SHOTS) at the end of every trade the two fighters had.

It wasn't until the end of the 6th round where I felt the tide had turned. Margarito had obviously taken Cotto's best shots AND THEN SOME, yet still came forward with FURY. At this point I hoped Cotto could stay on his feet and win the decision. I began to fear Margarito and was awoken by his will to win at all costs.

At round 11 I had Cotto winning by one, possibly two rounds. But something inside of me knew Margarito was about to have his moment to shine! Then BOOM! Two inside uppercuts later, Cotto was down. Shortly after, Cotto's "0" was gone.

POST-FIGHT: Initially, I thought Cotto should've worked Margarito's body more. From the get-go, he was head hunting. Margarito has the BEST CHIN IN BOXING! He took some hellacious shots and made it seem like nothing. I wonder if Mayweather would be enticed to come out of retirement. A Cotto win would make that more possible, but Mayweather ducked Margarito before, now after this, why wouldn't he duck him now. I HOPE AND PRAY that De La Hoya wants to fight Margarito as his farewell fight because Tony will send Oscar to retirement on his back like I've yearned to see!!

FINAL THOUGHTS: What a fight! Great win for Margarito! Hopefully he can avenge his loss against Williams and take 3 belts then take on Berto to clean out the division. (Assuming he doesn't fight De La Hoya). Cotto on the other hand WILL bounce back! He has too much heart and determination to end his career here. For some reason, I don't think he wants a rematch, but that's just me. Maybe sometime later down the road but not just yet. Hope everyone enjoyed it! Cause I sure did!

    LONG LIVE BOXING!!!

Excellent post and insight. I completely agree. Great fight. I was rooting for Cotto but Margarito's chin and will won him the Battle. Hopefully Cotto will bounce back and get back to his roots as a body puncher.
