it seems that everyone is forgetting that cotto was the naturally smaller man and he still stood in there and banged w a huge WW thats been there for over 10 years....duran moves up get ko'ed by hearns and he's great...so whatever...shit margo should be the best WW...everyone there there even the old guys shane, oscar, both started at 135... PBF,cotto, judah, none of them are natural WW. Margo should beat every one of them easily with his activity. The bigger man beating the smaller guy has never impressed me. just like bhop beating tito and oscar. SO what? exceptional small fighters would probably lose majority of the time to good big guys...look to shane and winky. or corrales - clottley.

    Big props for the comment...
This was the discussion since 2003, but people continued to overlook Marga... Then they wanted to avoid him, but this is the thing most Marga fans were saying from the start. How can PBF stay in there with a true WW who throws 100+ per round?

You can't compare the Duran situation, he was old, out of shape going in, and he had already become a legend. Duran went up in weight to face the bigger faster Leonard, and beat him the first time.

Also Margo shouldn't beat PBF, because PBF is the best in the world, and his speed would be too much for Margo to overcome. I think the really good little fighters know how to beat the bigger fighters PBF beat Corrales, Castillo, Judah, ODLH etc. Roy Jones Jr. beat Hill, Toney, McCallum, Griffin, Tarver the first time, Ruiz, etc. Hopkins beat Tarver, Winky beat Trinidad, Oscar IMO beat Trinidad, Pacquaio beat all the bigger guys he faced. Duran beat Leonard, fought a great fight with Hagler, went up to beat Barkley, etc. Toney beat many cruiserweights as he moved up then even beat some decent heavyweights. Whitaker moved up and faced many good fighters at higher weights.

Great fighters overcome adversity to beat bigger fighters. I don't think a great fihgter should be able to use that excuse unless they are fighting a big fihgter of equal skill liked Hopkins-ODLH. Cotto is a great fighter at what he does, when he can do it, but htat doesn't make a truly great fighter who can adapt to beat fighters like Leonard-Duran II or Leonard-Hearns, or Ali-Frazier II, or Ali-Foreman, Robinson against Lamotta after the first fight or any of the other examples of this. Pep-Saddler 2, Mayweather-Castillo II, RJJ-Griffin II.

Or examples like Corrales standing in there with Castillo despite his similar vulnerabilities that COtto had and banged with Castillo in the center of the ring REFUSING to go down. Cotto didn't go down by any punches the last two times, he quit inside his head. I don't think I could do differently, but you watch Holyfield-Quawi, Corrales-Castillo, Barrera-Morrales, Pacquaio against Marquez both times Pacquaio took a brutal beating in the middle rounds and still came back to even it up or win down the stretch(Marquez also showed great heart in those fights).

You ask any one of those guys about style matchups, and they would tell you to shove it up your ass, and that it didn't matter. They were going to win and thats all there was to it. Thats what Chavez said when he fought Rosario

THat is what Margarito said when he faced both Cintron and Cotto, He didn't actually say it, but he showed it, He was going to walk through heaven and hell, but nothing was going to stop him from beating these guys.

I love Cotto, and I think he is still one of the 5 best boxers in the world, but you look at Calzaghe, Pacquaio and they are made of something different. Now Cotto could change my mind, but I didn't see the same fighter that fought Judah. I saw Mike Tyson against Evander Holyfield.

His true fans will stick with him, thick or thin. Rest of the bunch will throw him under the bus and move on to the next bandwagon.

I don't think people are really BEING NEGATIVE about Cotto but simply talking about the fight. If you want to see negative attitudes just hear what people say about ODLH and Mayweather in here, THAT is some negative stuff. Whatever they do people will cry about it and throw all kinds of trash to them. But Cotto? Naaaaah, he lost and it’s a common topic around here since he's pretty much the forum's favorite fighter.

Boxing is full of fairweather fans.....but it ain't me babe....I stuck with Wlad and Jermain Taylor and I am sticking with Andy Lee and I'll stick with Cotto.....it's easier too considering how good of a fighter Margarito is anyway and how amazing his chin is.
