Goldenboy's Manipulation of The Ring Magazine

I have am a very vocal supporter of The Ring, so it pains me to say this but there recent “Fall 2008” issue has crossed the line.

Just some background:
As you may recall, a stripper, Mila Dravnel had some incriminating photographs of Oscar De La Hoya from a crazy night in Philadelphia. De La Hoya claimed she was lying and that the pictures were fake. Thus Ms. Dravnel sued him for defamation. Eventually an undisclosed settlement was reached which included Ms. Dravnel signing a confidentiality agreement.

After the case was settled, De La Hoya sent out a press release claiming that “experts” had determined the photos to be fake causing Ms. Dravnel to drop her Defamation lawsuit. This press release was dishonest simply because it implies that actual unbiased experts had made this determination, when it was really just Oscar’s paid expert witnesses saying, well, what they were paid to say. The release also falsely implied that because of these “experts” that Ms. Dravnel had dropped her Defamation suit.” It completely ignores the financial terms of the settlement.

That being said, I don’t care that Oscar creates fake press releases because he is a public figure and needs to manipulate media coverage like any other high profile celebrity.

But here’s the Rub: The misleading press release is printed on page 12 in the Fall 2008 issue of The Ring Magazine.

I thought The Ring was supposed to be sacred and off limits to the Golden Boy: I guess not.

Well doesnt the ring magazine cover anything relating to boxing news? Is'nt that considered boxing news?

Yeah, definitely. They should cover it, but with journalistic integrity. Instead the bible of boxing has simply printed De La Hoyas misleading press release under the guise that it is fact.

Here's another manipulation, featuring PAC (a TopRank boxer) on the cover of Ring Mag. Of course PAC deserves to be on the cover but the timing is questionable. Oscar is starting to hype PAC since he might possibly face PAC in his final December 6 fight.

thats exactly what i have been saying from day 1 bro how they said that the golden boy camp is scared of pacquiao lol all promotion get people to be like damn this is going to be the sh*t oh and they said that at 147 pacquiao is a bigger threat than cotto (wtf lol not at 147)

Agree, PACMAN deserves it.

Expect Oscar to use Ring Mag to the fullest to hype his coming fight with the PACMAN. First PACMAN on the cover then followed by Oscar then both PACMAN and Oscar on the cover of Ring Mag December issue.

I also dont think that would be an issue either; if he fights Pac, that will be the biggest event of the year and deserve a Ring cover.
