Default What would Oscar's answer be?

Suppose someone asked Oscar straight out:
"Oscar... why won't you fight Margarito for your farewell/legacy fight?"

What do you think his answer would be?

Yeah... I suppose that's as good an excuse as any. Kinda pathetic, but a good excuse.

it kinda makes sense though. Pac has been beating every mexican put in front of him and really oscar is the only mexican left. For oscars last fight he takes on the pacman and gets the chance to beat the guy who has been beating the other mexicans.

Can you imagine if pac drops and or beats oscar? that shiit would be huge!!!

If oscar wins though it would make sense, he'll end the success pac has had over mexicans as his last goodbye fight. Oscar gotta stay off the canvas though cause there hasn't been a mexican pac didn't put on their ass.

You're right... that's a great angle. I'd be surprised if Oscar and his marketing machine didn't pick up on that and use it to hype the matchup.

And if by some miracle, Pac DID drop and/or beat De La Hoya... I'd be on a plane to the Phillipines the next day to help plan the homecoming parade.

No offence but how can a man who has fought Trinidad, Mayweather, Hopkins, Mosley, Pernell, Chavez, Quartey, Mayorga, Vargas, Gatti, Camacho and Gonzalez be afraid of fighting Margarito? We have seen 6'1 Paul Williams beat Tony recently and Oscar is quite tall at 5'11 for that weight but IMO has better boxing skills than Williams. Also I've seen people questioning Oscars chin (or so it seems). How? He has walked through peoples shots who hit a lot harder than anyone who Tony has faced and also probably hits as hard as Cintron who is the hardest puncher that Tony has faced. The difference is he is a lot better boxer than Cintron and would cause Tony a lot of trouble and I think beat him.

I don't understand why people hate Oscar. He has fought the best fighters of his era and is looking now like he is going to take on the man who has been beating all his fellow Mexicans albeit in divisions quite a bit lower than the one he has been fighting. It looks like a mismatch but if you could take Oscar from 1995 when he himself was fighting at lightweight and put Pacman from now into that era we wouldn't be arguing this. The thing is he has grown into a junior middle and is going to drain himself (probably) to fight at Welter. The Mexican public turned on him a bit when he beat Chavez twice who is the biggest name in Mexican Boxing so he probably wants to win their hearts back and sees this as the best way of doing so. Certainly the last thing that would win the hearts of the Mexicans back would be to beat up their new hero and the man who has just beaten a fierce Puerto Rican Rival.

So the answer has to be the one he has already said, That he doesn't want to fight another Mexican.

"He doesn't have a big enough name."

That's my guess... Hoya wants to rake more money in his last fight and there are other boxers who can generate that more than a Margarito fight.

Im not saying Oscar De La Hoya doesn't deserve some bashing but come on the man is a legend look at his record and look at all of the opponents he beat........

He even went up to 160 to fight Bernard Hopkins thats 6 weight classes higher than the weight class he started at i think its very disrespectful to say Oscar De La Hoya is scared of Antonio Margarito because that sounds like your calling him a coward........

Oscar De La Hoya has fought good opposition since his 4th pro fight and about 85 percent of his opposition has been top quality i think people need to show some more respect to Oscar De La Hoya considering what he done for the sport and considering what he achieved......

Im not saying i agree with him fighting Manny Pacquiao but it makes good business sense Manny Pacquiao is the biggest name in boxing at the moment and sells out arena's where as Antonio Margarito isn't that well known to the casual boxing fans and hasn't got the star power Manny Pacquiao has and more importantly Antonio Margarito doesn't sell out arena's.......

The fact is whether you like it or not Antonio Margarito vs Oscar De La Hoya isn't as appealing as Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar De La Hoya tickets wise nor is it as appealing to the general public.......

I personally think Oscar De La Hoya should retire he has done enough in his career in my opinion but if he wants Manny Pacquiao to be his last fight i have no problem with it.

His answer would be "If the money is right, I'll fight him" but what he means is "HELL NO! I'm trying to WIN my farewell fight!"

he's a fighter so i dont think he is scared as such..

But for one.. he isnt a hungry fighter.. hes just looking for a wrap up.. oscar cant even remember having to fight for chump change.. not that he ever did to be honest.. but the risk doesnt match the reward with margarito.

And i give pac more chance then most when it comes to beating oscar.. if he moves up in the right way..

go to 140 and test the waters.. i know he has filled 135 very well..

and i think he can be powerful at 140 too.. still 147 is a solid jump if were looking at a short amount of time.

i give pac more shot then forbes though to be honest.

I don't think people hate De La Hoya and his legacy. Everyone here respects him but he's bad for boxing right now. He should've retired already and given the best fighters a chance to fight other fighters not fight him instead.

No one questions his past accomplishments, but they question what he is still doing here...

OK I understand where your coming from but why should he retire while he is still competitive?
