Arum being an idiot as usual.
Why in the world would Floyd retire to avoid a fighter who had to be helped out of the ring after the systematic beatdown that Margarito put on him?
His fighter folded under the pressure and will never be the same fighter again.
I'd love to see Floyd come out and fight Margarito, a real warrior but Cotto will be lucky to get a belt back now after what Margarito did to him.
From now on his career will go the way of Zab Judah and Fernando Vargas. He'll still get the big fights against the top fighters, but he won't be winning many.
Ah my mistake. It wouldn't suprise me at all for Arum to still be going on about it however after all this is the man who with a straight face once said that history would see Ali and George Foreman joined by Hasim Rahman as the three greatest Top Rank heavies of all time.
I actually have nothing bad to say about Cotto though, the guy is willing to face anybody and put his reputation on the line each time so I have nothing but respect for him.
I knew Margarito would beat his ass though![]()
Miguel Cotto is 27 and he unlike Floyd has fought Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito and he KO'd Zab Judah...those are all things Floyd didn't do. And in fighting Margarito he did fight the best at 147 that fight was ultimately for the bragging rights in the division.
I don't really respect the Gomez fight but fighting Carlos Quintana as his first fight at 147 is pretty big. Floyd fought Sharmba Mitchell as his first fight at 147....WEAK...had he done it maybe 5 years earlier then hell yeah it would be worth something but at that point in his career Sharmba was done.
Floyd is a great boxer but he took no chances
I still think Cotto could beat Mayweather, but by neither guy calling each other out they both missed the boat imo. Maybe it could have happened while they were both undefeated, but either way Margarito desrved the fight more than Mayweather. Mayweather did nothing spectacular at Welterweight. Both Margarito and Cotto are much more accomplished at this weight imo because they fought other prime welterweights.
Psalm 144: Blessed be the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle
I knew this couldn't be true, Cotto has too much class to spout off like that. Arum is almost as sleazy as Don King

first point when cotto did fight the best he got beat. as for zab i think floyd was punishing him before the low blow but thats just my imo also zab took cotto to the ninth round after rocking cotto a couple times and if we give cotto credit for beating zab and we give baldomir credit for beating zab y doesn't floyd get credit for that and floyd turned around and beat baldomire no credit for that i dont get it. i been saying this for years alot of guys floyd beats he out classes them so its always floyd doesn't fight the best but then some other guy comes along and beats a guy a year later that pbf beat and they say wow he is great some one please make this make sense to me
like clottey is going to get credit for beating zab but there is some who say he sould be fighting pbf y is he fighting zab and he wants berto next who i feel is gonna beat him but thats takeing a step down imo because berto is still working his way up
Cotto has been beaten ONCE but only because he's not afraid to fight the best fighter out there.
Floyd didn't get full credit for beating Judah because Zab didn't deserve the fight as he lost to Baldomir and looked pathetic doing it. That being said the Zab Judah that fought Floyd was more focused and determined....but Cotto KO'd that version and Floyd didn't
. Floyd didn't get the full credit for beating Baldomir as he knew he couldn't hurt Carlos and he outboxed him but not in a manner where he made Baldomir pay for anything....Floyd didn't flurry on him or make him look foolish or anything any other great fighters did in their most uninspired fights. If Roy Jones Jr. couldn't KO someone he was going to do his damnedest to make them look silly in the ring and he did a good job of it, Pernell Whittaker didn't KO many guys but he made plenty of them look stupid. Floyd has the talent to do that but to waste people's time and money to basically just run away from Baldomir for the last half of the fight and then call himself "The best of all-time"....it's ridiculous, it's what makes people dislike him. He's got great talent but you never know if you're going to get to see it.
Everyone knows Floyd is an awesome fighter but it seems like Floyd is more willing to talk himself up to a high level instead of fighting himself up to a high level. Why leave a division and retire from boxing when the division is overflowing with talent?!?!?! It makes no sense and everyone knows it.

it seems to me your makeing the same point and not really giving me a valid answer to my question. you say cotto lost to the best but mago is not very talented imo. you say floyd faught the focused zab but i still one to me that means he should get more credit if floyd faught the focused zab then cotto faught the unfocused zab coming off of a couple losses. pbf is a proffesional in the ring winning fights the best way he knows how also he hurt his hand in i think the 5th round this is y he stayed away from baldomir. when jones was fighting they always said he wasn't fighting the best and would say his tacticts to make fighters look silly where very unproffesional
Well Margarito might not be a polished boxer but he's tough and too tough for anyone to stop at 147 and being tough, being able to take punishment is a talent when you can draw someone into your fighting style. Margarito is more dangerous than anyone Floyd has ever fought.
Zab Judah has been more focused since his loss to Baldomir...he was very ready for Cotto despite having lost vs Baldomir and Floyd.
If Floyd acted professionally then he'd give the fans what they wanted and if he's not able to KO Baldomir (which he wasn't going to do anyway) then he should make him look bad. He doesn't have to gloat or showboat or anything like that but he could have boxed aggressively and made Baldomir swing and miss and counter him with the handspeed we all know Floyd has.....but no, Floyd broke a nail and didn't WANT to throw.....well Gatti didn't WANT to hit Mickey Ward with his broken hand but he did it and low and behold he's the fan favorite.
I don't ask anything from Floyd that I wouldn't ask from any other fighter. Floyd has all the talent in the world but should he be compared to Ray Robinson, Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, Roberto Duran, Willie Pep? NO!
im gonna tell you what listening to the fans in boxing gets you more low paying fighst then hudge paydays and your face split open hints cotto who we now see will never be elite he could have faught a couple more average guys and busted them up kept looking good and getting more money once you lose it puts you in a lower price range not saying pbf is scared to fight anyone but he faught who he had to fight to the level he wanted and the money he wanted witch is what you do at your job you make smart buissness moves and for all the fighters who said they could beat pbf and say he put priced himself put the money up take his head of and beat the best if not then u cant complain
So you don't think Floyd would make a mint it he fought Cotto? You don't think he'd make money fighting Margarito
So Floyd doesn't want to be the greatest he just wants to be the best paidWhat a legacy to leave
Miguel Cotto is elite....most fighters lose and most great fighters have lost. But great fighters always push themselves to fight the best....anyone can go out and make money boxing but not everyone can be great and right now Cotto has the respect of fans that Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn't know anything about.
