...because he's not trying to accomplish much in his "competition"
"He's Mexican, and I don't want to fight another Mexican."
"He doesn't have a big enough name."
"I really had my heart set on Mayweather."
"I'm scared to fight him. He might beat the sh*t out of me."
...because he's not trying to accomplish much in his "competition"
Sorry for such a late reply RJJ! I think he should retire because, like I said before, the best fighters should be fighting other great fighters. People steer away from their regular path just to fight De La Hoya.
For example, Floyd should've been fighting a real welterweight but instead chose to fight De La Hoya. Hatton then got the calls to fight De La Hoya. Good thing he turned it down cause now he's fighting one of the best in his division in Malignaggi. After beating De La Hoya and Hatton, Floyd DEFINITELY should've looked to fight a welterweight but instead signed on to fight De La Hoya again.
Now Pacquiao is the leading candidate to fight De La Hoya next. He should be fighting one of the big name lightweights, Valero, or Soto. Instead of concentrating on his REAL competition, he's now sidetracked in the thought of fighting Oscar.
De La Hoya is an all-time great no doubt! But as it stands, De La Hoya at this point in time does not make an impact the way he used to in the boxing world aside from making money..
Oscar makes ridiculously huge amounts of dough - compared with any other fighter - REGARDLESS of who is in the opposite corner.
He clearly wants to end with a "superfight" that is WINNABLE - hence Pac.
3-Time SADDO PREDICTION COMP CHAMPION.
The saddest thing is that Oscar gets hated on by mostly Mexicans, now I love MArgarito, but he has never done and probably will never do as much for Mexicans both inside or outside of the ring. As a fighter, business man, and philanthropist in general Oscar has represented Mexicans very well and he should get more respect than what most give him.
The key is Self-discipline.

I think Oscar, if he is in the same shape he was against Flord or Mayorga could quite posibly box Margo to a UD.
Antonio struggles against guys his size or bigger ( Santos, Williams) so DLH at a similiar size would have that going for him. Margo also oreys on fighters that are weak minded (Cintron) and ODLH has been in enough big fights that there is no problem with that.
I say again if Oscar is in the same shape that he was v Mayorga he could beat Margarito.
"He's Mexican, and I don't want to fight another Mexican."
I am still entertained by watching Oscar, I think he really does want to make exciting fights,
Thats cricket
I think it upset Oscar the way the Mexican fans turned against him after he beat JJC so he wont want to risk it again.
He wants to go out a hero to his people.
