Miguel Cotto says Floyd Mayweather Jr will have to Answer

This is nonsense!!! Floyd has proven himself the best of our generation! and he deserves credit for that! the; man is now retired move on seriously these guys on boxing forums annoy me!

The thing is these forums are more of a popularity contest than anything as if it was about accomplishments and skill you would not be challenging Floyd.

Gatti, Baldomir, and Mitchell were past their primes or never even had primes AND the fact that Miguel Cotto has fought virtually the same competition as Floyd (different fights vs "the best" but virtually the same otherwise) and Margarito has been itching for a (and deserving of) fight for a looooong time and what does Floyd do? He fights Ricky Hatton at a weight where Ricky is useless!


So there IS truth to Floyd trying to cover his ass and protect that 0 in the loss column for as long as possible. Is there a coincidence that Cotto-Margarito happened and no one wanted Floyd-De la Hoya II and then Floyd retired suddenly? I don't think so, I think Floyd knew if he was to stick around he'd HAVE to fight either Cotto or Margarito OR both.....but when in the history of boxing have we given a boxer (the self proclaimed greatest of all-time) this much SLACK when he obviously has very legitimate competition which could only add to his legacy but yes Floyd is a pussy....if you can call any prize fighter a pussy it's got to be Floyd

Not sure if we can compare Cotto's (the most loved boxer around here) resume with ODLH and Mayweather (the most hated of the forum). Lots of people got excited when he faced Gomez which was not really someone we can compare with Mayweather, Hatton, Pac, ODLH, etc. People were like "Oh my gawd! Cotto beat the great Gomez!". Also faced 2 guys passed their primes. Sometimes I think he's overrated. Cotto finally faced a guy who was in his prime and looked what happened.

Floyd even turned down HBO's contract for a few million. More than 20 million for ODLH, 15 million for Hatton, and then face a guy who would give him way less? Nobody in his right mind would fight a guy for way less money. It would be smart to let Cotto build up his name but look at him, he lost so bad that it makes it more difficult for that to happen. Gotta come back. Still, I find it hard to see a guy who gets exposed on all his fights (cuts, jaw/chin, rocked, tires halfway, way slower than Mayweather, etc.) to beat a guy (Mayweather) who has yet to show a clear weakness/flaw. No matter how much I wish Cotto beat Mayweather, I just can't see it.

After a few round that Cotto noticed that his jab, uppercut, body punch, hooks, etc. were having no effect in Margarito and started to run out of gas, I somehow noticed that as well.

I don't remember a Cotto fan ever daring himself to mention a weakness in Cotto, and he has so many. Sure, many are fast to mention how terrible ODLH and Mayweather are but has Cotto accomplished as much as both of them? Does Cotto have a similar resume? I don't think so. These are the people that start so many threads about "Mayweather is afraid of Cotto...ODLH is afraid of Cotto...Look at Cotto's greatness...Cotto looks so cool wearing Nike...No way Margarito will ever have a chance to make Cotto sweat..."

I like Cotto, don't get me wrong, I can tell you the qualities I see in him as I already have in other threads but fans simply ignore his flaws which are seen in all his fights. He fights 2 guys pass their primes, and also a guy like Gomez who made lots of Cotto fans get all excited about that victory but later on he finally gets in the ring with someone who's in his prime and look what happened.
I can see Cotto coming back and beating a couple more Gomez's or even a big name that may not be pass his prime but beating Mayweather? I doubt it as much as I wish it happened.

Your dislike of Cotto practically oozes out of your pores. Nothing wrong with that.... we all have our favorites. You've long since established a biased toward the Mexican fighters, as I'll admit to being biased toward the Puerto Rican fighters. And you're a bit more knowledgeable in your arguments than "the truth-boy".

But you're pretty harsh in your assessment of Cotto, IMO. Flaws? All fighters have them. But for years, Cotto has been accused of being: a. robotic (now that's a laugh), b. weak-chinned (disagree there also... it was the volume of punches he took from Margarito that finally did him in). You give him no credit for out-jabbing and out-boxing the masterful Mosley. No... Mosley is over-the-hill and should probably be on Medicare by now. Well... boxing experts other than you and me graded Mosley pretty highly on his efforts against Cotto. And Judah was past his prime? What is he.... all of 30 by now?

But again... I understand your intense dislike. You see... I've always had the same dislike for De La Hoya. I only grudgingly give him his dues. But suffice it to say I will not be making a pilgrimage to his bronze statue wherever the hell that is.

There's a difference between disliking a boxer and simply acknowledging his weaknesses. Check this out, I like ODLH but I won't fear talking about his weaknesses. When he fought Forbes, remember my comments? And yet, I like ODLH regardless of me mentioning certain flaws even WHEN HE WON! Disliking and even hating a boxer is what I see here everyday with topics about how ODLH is so terrible for doing this and that, for Mayweather for being so terrible about this and that. I am not talking about Cotto being a chicken or whatever. All I am talking about are his clear weaknesses/flaws which many Cotto fans somehow can't dare themselves mention.

In many of his fights (if not all) he gets rocked, cut, tired half-way through, etc. Volume? It was round 2 when he went to sit on the ropes after a body punch. Mouth opened from early on.

You are not the only one around here who dislikes ODLH. There are lots of threads every week about how terrible ODLH is. Still, nobody says a thing. Then you have me here observe Cotto's weaknesses/flaws, resume, etc. and I get negative reps, a nasty message here and there in my inbox, etc. Talk about fans getting all sensitive. And I am not even talking about him in a derrogatory way as people do with ODLH or Mayweather ("He's a pussy...he's a faggit...Oscar de la Fishnets...Oscar is an idiot..." and so on) which seem acceptable. If someone ever started a thread "Cotto is overrated, we saw that a few weeks ago" or whatever I can guarantee lots of people wouldn't be happy at all. Start another thread about how terrible ODLH and Mayweather are and everybody will be fine with that.
