I used to drum no very well ,snare for an Irish millitary style band actually..

But I had the thought go through my head that to hit in "cluffs" or on the off beat completly during a fight with the foowork to back it, would disrupt timing and may eventually allow for a punch that came out of left field as an unseen finisher on their reaction tothe change. .

like your idea better..
