Irish Light Welter was hard done by today.
Losing the first round 5-1 he launched a tremendous effort to fginish the fight at level pegging, he lost on countback against the aggressive Dominican.
Nevin boxed much more conservatively and cleanly and was unfairly penalised 2 points in the first round.
Observers such as Andy Lee and Michael Carruth voiced their disgust at the referee, but he'll be back in 4 years![]()

not the best day for teaM GB, bradley saunders and billy joe saunders (no relation) both gone out.
I'm fuming Gavin pulled out. He would have walked it.
There was a Heavyweight Ukranian named Oleksandr Usyk that i was very impressed with.
I say if he makes it out of the quarter finals in a few days, then he's my pick to win the gold in the heavyweight division.

One of my favorite things about the Olympics is seeing African fighters who you don't otherwise get to see. Bastie Samir is my favorite this year but was knocked out by Washington Silva in a fight in which he was robbed. Didn't only land more but pretty much just thoroughly dominated. Shame but Silva isn't a bad guy to watch, would love to see both as pros but Silva is up there in age. Samir is a spark plug though.
It was pretty much a given that Cuba was going to come out of nowhere with some guys, they've been fairly subdued and not sure about their medal hopes but one of them looks to be Iglesias. He's on the otherside of the draw as Andrade, both have a ways to go but that would make for a very interesting final. That would be a tremendous fight, think Andrade is a bit more versatile and can do more things in the ring but definitely one I hope happens here.
It's a shame about Warren. The Dan Campbell era has to be over after this, there is just no cohesiveness with the corners and with the fighters. It's fairly unacceptable, I hope they wise up here.
After viewing some of the bouts, I was not amused by the sportsmanship shown by two Russian boxers that lost their preliminary bouts.
Also, some of the judges or button pushers must be hard of seeing because they sure miss scoring points for some boxers, but score points that are called fouls by the referees.
Some of the boxers have shown ability, but then some have poor skills that shouldn't be considered Olympic material.
What ever happened to the effective use of the left jab. Yet to see any of the boxers unleash a series of three or more jabs in rapid fire order.
Hopefully, as we move to the semi-finals, more skill will be exhibited.
