Because there were quite a few, and Ottke hardly had a crowd pleasing style (Yeah alright the Germans enjoyed it, but they enjoyed Henry Maske and Michalczweski ) people forget, that he was a master of his craft, and despite turning pro very late in his career, he managed to use every ounce of amateur boxing experience he had, to make his career a success.

And it was a success from the financial point of view, it is just Ottke has few fans outside mainland Europe because of his horrid style, and few horrible decisions.
