Yes Cotto did quit, honestly he had nothing left and would have been knocked the phuk out, he could barely stand and he could barely keep his hands up. Miguel exuberated every ounce of energy in this fight and Tony with all of the punches he landed on Miguel especially the ones to the body, just zapped Cotto.

Did Cotto quit? Yes...

Did he do it because he was scared of Tony or Tony just ruined him?...No

Did he do it for his family and maybe his pride in not wanting to get stopped? Only he knows; but you could see him looking towards his family, and maybe he just knew that whatever he gave to Tony it wasn't going to be enough; as Tony was possessed that night.

Cotto put on a masterclass of boxing and any other man in the division would have fallen from the beating he was giving to Tony. But I saw Cotto give almost everything he had and he must have known Tony was going to stop him in that 11th round or the last round, as nothing that night was going to hinder Margo from that win.

And he was also hurting; as no other man in that division would have taken what Miguel took and lasted as long; not even Clottey IMO. If you think Tony won because Cotto got tired of hitting him in the face than you are an idiot. Tony hurt that man several times during the fight; and that coupled with the sheer physical output Cotto was giving must have been wreaking havoc on his system physically. Cotto only lacks in one thing, and that is the steel plated chin Tony has; and so does everyone else in the WW. Cotto can beat Tony if he stays off the ropes; simple as that. It won't be a thrilling fight, but he can win.

If you want to see a quitter go look at Cintron; that p#ssy boy sat down and started crying and hadn't taken anywhere near what Cotto took from Margarito. And I don't care if Cintron did "better" in the rematch, he still looked like he wanted out of there after the 1st few rounds. That is a quitter.

Cotto had took a lot of punishment and was on his last legs, he knew he wasn't gonna finish the fight so did the sensible thing, saved himself from further punishment so he save himself for future fights.

He is gonna get criticism though form people for not being 10 counted or having the ref stop it

I think saying he quit was a little harsh, he gassed out and took a knee knowing that he was in for a battering unless he did as he had nothing left.

I think some fighters get it into their heads that they are unbeatable and stop putting the effort into training/lifestyle etc, Boxing is a tough sport and if you don't put 100% preparation into every fight you are risking defeat, especially if you are a champion or have something that someone else wants as they will certainly be giving their all. I think that happened with Cotto, he landed the better shots on Margarito for the majority of the fight it was only the later rounds that Margarito really started pressing him and landing the solid shots. A Cotto of a few years ago never would have gassed.

If he wants to return and be the fighter he can be he needs to make sure he has that desire to give it his all, or it will happen again. he lost something in the ring that night, just like Tyson lost it to Buster Douglas, other fighters find out you are human and you can be beaten and it takes away a little bit of your advantage, you have to fight twice as hard to get that back.

exactlly mate , there is no one on this forum imo that would have fought on in his state, and there has to come a point when you think this isnt worht risking serious and possible permenant damage for.

he gave as much as he could and we should all be gratefull that he and margarito gave us a great fight, rather than refering to him as quiter when he is nothing of the sort, there is only so much the human body can take before it will start to let you down and at that point you have to get out of there before you are seriously injured

oh and btw markus, judging by what youve said , do you consider the g-man to be a quitter for letting himself be counting out after taking a knee

Simply, That was one of the better Fights say it again Fights Ive seen in a long time. No it was a great Fight, and for that to happen it takes two great Fighters for it to Happen Got it.

so like cotto he was hurt bad and if he didnt quit he would of taken alotof punishments.

Cotto had the crap beaten out of him he did the wise thing, quit and fight another day. Would you rather have seen him get brutally battered senseless and possibly seriously hurt?? He was a beaten fighter he made the right choice
