Oscar Diaz update
San Antonio welterweight Oscar Diaz remains in critical condition. The gutsy Diaz, who, after taking an 11-round beating from Delvin Rodriguez, July 16, collapsed in the ring between rounds, due to bleeding in his brain. He underwent surgery and a portion of the left cranium was removed to reduce the swelling. It’s unknown whether he will be able to make a complete recovery, let alone, a partial one, though doctors say it’s still too early to tell.

Holy shit, this happened while I was away. I didn't even know about it. That's fucking terrible, Diaz is one of my favorite fighters. I know he doesn't have world-class skills, but he was always entertaining. I remember when I was a relatively new boxing fan and I saw him fight Chris Smith on ESPN. I was a fan of his from that point on. Hopefully he can pull though, what horrible news.
He must've been taking a vicious beating, can anyone who saw the fight tell me how bad it was?

Really does bring it home how dangerous this sport is; and how absolutely important it is to have total professionals in your corner. My opinion is his corner men should have stopped that fight earlier, and maybe he could have kept pursuing a career in boxing. Now he'll be lucky to function normally. Very sad.

I hate to say this but as Diane and I watched this fight and when I heard what Diaz corner was trying to do by tricking the doctor and the ref with those antics and then I heard Diaz scream as he grabbed his head and then collapsed, the first thing I told Diane was that man will be in a coma She was like Danny! I was like mark my words. Although it was a drug induced coma, it was a coma none the less. I wish I had been wrong about it but I felt it coming. I also thought that Olivera would fall into a coma against his fight with Augustus and I am glad I was wrong about that. Sad to hear this kid is still down, it really is. His family must be torn

Man, that's just awful. That first vid was terrible to watch. I just hope he wakes up.

I had not watched this again since the night it happend but I can't help but feel some anger towards the people in Diaz corner, what in the phuk were they thinking? They know Oscar better than anyone else and no one can tell me that these people did not know that their was something terribly wrong with Oscar in that corner and yet they wanted him to continue? Not only did they want him to continue but they tried tricking the doctor and the ref several times and also tried to prop Diaz up on his limber feet to make matters worse, they were trying to ask Oscar more questions but yet it was the people in his corner yelling out the answers. Shame, phuking, shame, phuking shame on these people. The people in Diaz corner should be banned permanently from any contact sport

Wow that is horrible. Why did they do that - let him continue?? If a pro fighter can't trust his corner then, well i don't know it's just sad. That's why I have so much respect for Johnny Lewis here in Australia, he loves his fighters and would never let that happen.
