Niida has the edge with experience no doubt but come the later rounds he will feel pressure just like Cotto did.
The only reason Gonzalez fought at the higher weight was because it was a short notice fight, come sept 15th Niida better be wearing a bullet proof vest because if he gets caught with a chocolate body punch, the lights will dim sum.
I just can't seeing Niida getting hit as much as Cotto got hit against Margarito. So I see no reason why he would fade. Gonzalez is a fine fighter. But this is his first championship fight. And it's in his opponents back yard. I see him coming out over eager looking for the knock out. But he won't get it. This fight will mirror Johnny Tapia-Danny Romero. Niida by UD. In a good fight

He won't headhunt, he will be tucked in behind a high guard and try to cut the ring down. As good as Niida is, he wont have faced pressure like Gonzalez will put on him.
Niida will probably control the early part but Gonzalez can step it up and will and he dosent mind taking a shot to land two if he thinks he needs too.
Japan will not be a problem, hes fought there and loves the place and Niida is hardly the peoples champion.
Gonzalez has better skills than Margarrito too, that 2 minutes when he went way up the talent pool to fight Gejon showed just who he is.
Its gonna be war though, Niida is a great fighter.

I like Gonzalez. And I wouldn't mind seeing become champion some day. But i just can't see him doing it against Niida. Gonzalez might have fought in Japan before. But those were minor fights against minor opponents. This is his first championship fight. How will he handle the pressure? Niida has been in championship fights for the last 7 years.

Fair comment, but to say Gejon wasn't quality, did he not take Niida the full distance twice. he should have had more quality opposition but being owned and manged by two different promoters, the situation is not perfect. Also he was the number 1 contender a while back so no risks were about to be taken.
Have a look at how Gonzalez was super patient and then just doubled up with the left against Gejon. You don,t see that quality often and that speed is hard to defend or suck up.
Have no fear about him being nervous, the kid loves the big stage. Its going to be a war at some point and I think he will be too strong down the stretch.
You cant hold the torch forever, time to pass it on.

One thing I didn't like that was said about Roman earlier in his career was "Hes the next Alexis Arguello".

I'm sorry but Roman is worlds apart from Alexis right now.
And I like Roman but let's be honest here.

The thing is Niida is possibly the weakest puncher in the division (along side Eagle) & he ain't as good defensively as Mayweather, Calderon or Guzman. Niida is gonna get hit & he's got nothing to keep Gonzalez off!

Alexis Arguello's don't come along that often, especially in a poor country like Nicaragua but the boxing scene is alive and well there at the moment. There are four Nicas in title shots in the next four weeks and two fought for the title 3 weeks ago. Roman would have to be the best of the bunch but there is a young boy 16yrs old, Carlos "Chocorrón" Buitrago who just turned pro and fights tonight actually, who looks as gifted as anyone since "The explosive thin man"

The boy had a bit of a problem making weight but should come in at around 115lbs.
Who's going to be watching the fight later?
    I know i am.
