i'm all for a controversial character who can back it up, Hopkins could. Tarver is shit and looks a fucking fool shooting his mouth out when he is a second rate boxer at best.

I feel Tarver is actually past it and even though he looked good against woods the fight is misleading because woods appeared to be unfocused and didn't do anything for 12 rounds and just allowed Tarver to counter when he wanted.

Dawson will be focused and determined to beat Tarver and i see him pulling off a decision win.

He was wobbled several times by Johnson. Johnson is a pressure fighter, coming straight ahead. His KO's are almost all accumulation KO's. Tarver is more of a counterpuncher, and he has better one-punch power than Johnson.

Dawson may well outpoint Tarver in a decision, but don't kid yourself. Tarver has the potential flatten Dawson.

And those who say that Tarver can't back up the talk, he's 2-1 against Roy Jones. It's funny the same people that are giving Roy a chance against Calzaghe NOW are the same people who use the excuse that Roy was shot when he got KTFO by Tarver. You can't have it both ways. And what about all the pre-fight crap that came out of Hopkins mouth before the the Calzaghe fight? Did Hopkins back it up? Talk about a guy who makes excuses and never gives respect. That's OK. We love Hopkins.

It cracks me up. Tarver was in same situation, regarding weight loss, when he lost to Hopkins, a hall of famer, and that's not a good reason for having an off night. Yet, these same people who won't cut Tarver slack for the Hopkins fight use the weight-loss excuse to explain Roy's performance in the first Tarver fight. Talk about wanting to have it both ways. They Jones has a full 6 months to make his body right and gets KO'd. But Tarver is crap.

Roy Jones Jr. fans wanted Roy to finish his career with only the Griffin DQ as a blemish, and go down as the greatest boxer in the history of earth. Lots of boxers talk crap and sound silly. Almost none generate the kind of hate Tarver does. Why? Because Tarver knocked out there favorite fighter, they guy who they thought was the greatest ever. Tarver is crap and he just got lucky. Jones could have won the 3rd fight if he wasn't afraid to let his hands go. Bullcrap. There was a reason why he was afraid to let his hands go, and if he would have done it, Tarver would have knocked him out again.

The more I think about this, the more I want Tarver pull this off. He's not even being a jerk promoting this fight. It will be amusing to hear the new and creative ways people invent to discredit Tarver. Really, it will be hilarious, because if he wins, it will be because Dawson is crap.

Tarver has had to work to earn respect probably more than any other fighter in recent history. Like you I think his beating Roy Jones ass over 3 fights and sending him unconscious in the second means he'll always be hated.

I guess if he was humble afterwards and acknowledged that he 'got lucky' in fighting Jones at the right time people would have forgiven him but his confidence was probably too much for people to handle.


Much like Camilla Parker Bowles who will never be liked by the British public because of her being the 'other woman' who led to Charles cheating on 'poor Diana' Tarver will never gain respect for beating Jones the way he did.

It's actually funny the situation with Camilla in this country. By every single media account she is a charming and delightful woman in private, who keeps out of the spotlight as much as possible to avoid bringing any controversy to her husband and antagonising the public. Meanwhile the reality of Diane was that she was a shockingly self obsessed, almost crazy attention seeking bulimic slapper who threw threw herself at men and had a string of affairs herself, including affairs with Will Carling, and her riding instructor James Hewitt. Add to that the fact she dumped the middle class heart surgeon Hasnat Khan when he told her he wanted a quiet life family to live it up with the son of the notoriously corrupt and coincidently mega rich Muhammed Al Fayed.

Charles on the other hand dated Camilla before he even got with Diana, was pressured into marrying Diana as she was more 'acceptable' to the public but remained true to his one true love in the end and got with the woman he'd wanted to be with for the past 30 years. Camilla and Charles fell in love in 1970 but Camilla got married and Charles had to wait another 35 years to finally get her.

In an earlier age Shakespeare would have written a play about them akin to Romeo and Juliet, with Diana cast as the role of the harlot.

But because Camillia was not attractive whereas Diana was (allegedly) Camilla became the evil adultress.

But the Baggins can see through all the media hype and spin.

Camilla and Charles is a love story for the ages, a 38 year love affair and they are still going strong.

It's like Romeo and Juliet with ugly people, a love story to rival that of the biblical Jacob toiling for Laban for 14 years to win the heart of Rachel his true love.

I've always thought that way, Baggins, but your topic and the inevitable haterism it inspired brought out my rant. It's been simmering for a good while. Nice analogy about Diana/Camilla. That was a good chuckle first thing in the morning.

He might be more respected, but he'd still be hated and probably not respected enough...look at how much people hated on Larry Holmes and how little respect he gets/got relative to his accomplishments. His great crime was not being Ali. Holmes was consistant, and far more humble than Tarver. He still got the crap end of the stick from the public and even from many hardcore boxing fans.

He might be more respected, but he'd still be hated and probably not respected enough...look at how much people hated on Larry Holmes and how little respect he gets/got relative to his accomplishments. His great crime was not being Ali. Holmes was consistant, and far more humble than Tarver. He still got the crap end of the stick from the public and even from many hardcore boxing fans.

Holmes was definitely consistent but the Marciano quotes went along way in hurting him. The bitterness he holds to this day turns a lot of fans off!
