I think when a fighter takes a knee after being seriously hurt it shows a great deal of intelligence and composure.

Many times it is the difference between a KD and a KO. I see nothing wrong with it at all, and I have a hard time understanding why someone would say otherwise.

I don't really get the impression it is unpopular among fans.. Pretty silly if people do criticize it. But one thing I'm fairly sure of is that the reason it isn't more commonly used among fighters would have nothing to do with the fans perception. Can you honestly see a fighter being hurt but refusing to take a knee on the basis it's unpopular? Maybe they are just to stubborn to give the round away knowingly? I'd say it probably comes down to the fighters mentality somewhat. Some boxers don't know how to lose rounds or feel out etc, they are always pressing to win every excange. It would be logical that fighters with this mentality would be more hesistant to take a knee, wheras fighters who are willing to pace themselves and fight a more calculated fight would be less reluctant? Of course there have been some good points raised so far in that they don't know how long is left in the round and often guys will leave themselves most vulnerable when trying to finish an opponent. Those are both huge reasons to.

I know is crazy but I read here and there a lot of fans criticizing when a fighter takes a knee. Like someone said here is a smart thing to do.

I also remember corley vs Cotto. he (corley) took a smart knee and the moron stopped the fight.

For you all, the thread is a bout a fan perspective when a boxer takes a knee.

That's foul but even worse is when the guy is actually actively throwing punches back and the ref stops the fight.

So you'd rather just take the KO? What if the guy is just pounding you and you can't get him off?

I'm pretty much the opposite, there have been many, many times I've wanted a fighter to take a knee.

Fighters don't take a knee because they lose that round, it gives confidence to their opponent, they think they lose some macho points, and most boxers have too much pride to show any weakness, IMO.

I've never heard, that I can recall, any commentators talking about how many times a particular fighter has taken a knee. Should we start keeping stats on taking knees to separate the smart fighters from the stupid ones? Do you think if we started talking about 'smart knees' fighters would start taking knees more often? Hell no!! Lol

Not sure if Puya is still around- but found this thread and remember the knee Corley took- that was wrong of the ref- to which could be why some fighters know they have that option- but fear the outcome it could produce.

One wise time that sticks out was Tim Bradley vs Kendolt holt for the WBC/WBO belts. Holt, bolted him & he took that knee. Wise move, it payed off for him & he finished off strong.

If you have to take a knee in a fight then you should.

Smart fighters take a knee when they need time to recover.

It will not guarantee them a win but it can happen.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
