runners world has a great website with all kinds of tools for training. You can put in the race you're doing and what time you'd like to aim for and it'll spit out a workout for you.
Two and a half weeks isn't enough time to really train for a race. My advice would be to go and run the course, if at all possible. If the race is in the morning, start running in the morning. I run in the evening or afternoons and this summer I did three races that were all in the morning and it's really hard to get your legs warmed up and ready to go.
Try to run as much as you can this first week. Do a couple of longer runs and a few shorter speed runs. Take the day before the race off and don't worry about loading up on carbs, just eat normal. It's only 5k.
Good luck! I think I'm running one on Sunday.
