Yeah him and Lamont are two of America's hottest boxing prospects.
They are both pretty good, one is primarily a puncher, the other a slick boxer.
One, I can't remember which has the excrutiatingly annoying habit of shouting 'POP! POP! POP!' after every single punch he throws.
He's my least favourite fighter in the whole world to watch for this reason.
I have to mute him, he's just unbearable.

Glad its not just me, the referee should warn them about it.
It ruins the fights for everyone and must be really off putting for their opponents.

bop bop bop bopbop bop bopbop bop bop bop bop
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

Good fighter, as is his brother, but like already stated that bop bop bopping is annoying to the point of distraction.
I couldn't imagine having to stand in front of him listening to that while trying to fight him. I'd probably just try to kick him in the throat and get dq'd.![]()
He's a beast along with his brother Lamont, who has wins over Andre Dirrell and Rock Allen. Both won national Golden Gloves and were good prospects to make the 2004 Olympic Team, but came up short. The Petersons have a great story. Really good guys. Really personable and down to earth. They support DC amateurs boxing and attend many shows here locally every weekend they are around. I just saw them last weekend with their 3rd amigo and stablemate Ty Barnette. They also still are regulars at their local gym where they boxed during their amateurs and have been with the same coach since they started - which is really rare these days. Here's a link to one of the many articles detailed their rise from being homeless at 10 years old The Peterson Brothers: An Argument for Boxing
Here's a vid from Anthony as a 17 year-old from 2001. Click through to the video to see in high quality format: YouTube - H.O.B.O presents 2001 Platinum Gloves Anthony Peterson vs. Deshawn Richardson

The sound is really a carry-over from the amateurs. It's very common and taught to help boxers get a rhythm with their combinations. In the amateurs it can also influence the judges by highlighting the fact that a boxer actually thought about and meant to throw all of the punches in a combination instead of just throwing random punches. Sometimes, it can result in more scoring blows being awarded. If it annoys the opponent - that's just a bonus
It's no different than the sshh sshh sshh that you hear, just a different flavor. . .
