Who is Gaspar Ortega and how good was he?

I'm intesrested in this guy,but I do not know alot about him except he was a tough Mexican and lost like his 10 last fights.Which weight class did he compete in and was he highly regarded? What was hist style like? CC's to everyone that helps me out!

Never heard of him myself but from what i just saw over half his 131 wins came against fighters who hadnt won more than 1 fight, and his first 21 opponents bosted a combined record of 0-5-0.

You need to brush up on your boxing history a bit. He was on tv a lot in the 50's and 60's. He fought some good fighters, Griffith, Paret, DeMarco. With regard to his first few fights being against guys with losing records, you only have to look at new guys fighting on ESPN2 to realize most new fighters are brought up fighting guys with losing records.

I wasnt questioning his pedigree, as I said I've never heared of him let alone seen any footage, so I would be wrong to do that. My point about the 21 fights he fought was'nt so much about the records they had when they fought him but more to do with the fact they never fought anyone but him. I see he got through the 21 fights in 12 months which is impressive enough but at least 50 of his opponents (if the stats are complete) only ever faced him.

He was a good welter fought all the top welters of that time.He got to be a fair Left hooker was strong and was in the top 6 for sometime, saw him box a few times I liked him

He was a top ten welterweight in 1961and was among those chosen to fight an elimination to see who would be welterweight champ. Sorry, but I don't remember his style. I do remember he entered the ring wearing an Indian headdress at times. If he were fighting today he would definetly hold a belt of some kind.
