You can't really expect him to compete in the most mentally and physically draining sport in the world when the man has a cold. He would get his head beaten in, give him a break, the fights still going to happen.

It's rather ironic that Abraham fought bravely for 12 rounds with Miranda with his jaw hanging off his face, but pulls out of this fight with less than 24 hours becuase of a runny nose and sore throat

Ironic?? Maybe if he had a worse cold before the Miranda fight and had chose not to pull out, it would be ironic. Sounds more just like bad luck to me. Why would there really be any correlation between physical pain he overcame in a fight to win, and not wanting to enter the ring sick for another one? Having said that it does sound like a bit of a BS excuse to me but who knows.
