Miles, you're a great poster, but not only is this bs, it's majorly disrespectful and borderline racist (well not racist, as Germans are the same race, but you get my drift). They were hyping the home fighter. They were selling him as good as they could. Nothing less, nothing more.

You'd see the same with Hatton or Haye in England, but you would never dream of invoking the ghost of Goebbels then, would you?
I think you are quite right for calling me out on that statement. With hindsight I see that it was insensitive.

I was just trying to say that I thought the slant they were trying to put was itself somewhat ridiculous and too much for my liking. Of course, it didnt quite come out that way when I hastily posted earlier. I would be critical of that kind of bombast regarding any fighter, and British fighters would not escape my scorn either.

I summonsed up Goebbels as a name associated with spectacle and making things look grand from a designated angle, it was not intended as a xenophobic attack upon race nor nation.
No harm done, I knew you did not mean it 'in that way'. For the record I dont have any particular sensibilities regarding Germans either. I do know however, how most Germans react when confronted in one way or another with those memories, especially in situations where there is no need at all to evoke them. So, even if I am not particularly pc, I thought the line was unfair. Anyway, the positive rep is returned, and even more so now I find you a class poster for admitting (even the slightest) mistakes.

I still disagree with you that it was bad taste though - I thought it was damn cool!

This was not the most partisan fight of all time. For one, we have had some bad crowds before. For another......the scorecards (at least one) was particularly generous to Peter. You wouldn't see that at teh most biased fight ever.

I wasn't talking about the crowd or the judges though I just meant the sickening outpouring of support for Vitali from all of his most illustrious boxing peers, and even Michael Buffer introduing the REIGNING champ as the guy coming to spoil the party.

The WBC might just as well have presented Sam's belt to Vitali in the dressing room so he could carry it out with him when he did his ring walk, in fact it wouldn't have suprised me at all if they actually asked Peter if he'd mind loaning them the belt for 10 mins

After Peters shameful effort, I don't see why you even care This wasn't Glenn Johnson who came and got the screw. This was a fat person who didn't try.
