Default Gamboa, stop being a dumbass

This guy is really annoying me now, He has pockets of brilliance that are so impressive I can't see how he could lose, then he makes amateur mistakes that most club fighters don't make. I am getting so frustrated with him not adjusting. Its not directly because he was an amateur, but becuase of the arrogant persona he got from being a successful amateur, and that sucks because he seems like a nice guy, but he has way more to offer then what he is offering, I personally think he should get a guy like Floyd Mayweather Snr in his corner, a guy who would not be star struck by Yuriorkis, and a guy who would really shapen Gamboa's defense up.

I also think he should take a look at Roy Jones as an amateur. Roy was a balls to the wall warrior when he was an amateur, but when he went pro he realized he needed to fight more elusively. That aggressiveness as an amateur really heightened Roy and Gamboa's reflexes, offensive arsenal, but once again there is a way to fight with your hands down, and there is a way not to fight with your hands down, Roy did it correctly, Gamboa doesn't.

He almost comes off like a pampered brat.He has a huge chip on his shoulder and is surrounded by so many yes men and huge entourage. He is getting away with so many mistakes in a crucial development phase right now and is falling back on legit power.Need to see signs of adjustments with natural speed and power before these bad habits become the norm and get him wrecked as the level of competition increases.Starts with his mentality Imo.

Agree big time here, while he has some amazing skill, these are his formative fights, his last fight really showed he has an extra room for the hook on his chin. Next guy he fights that is even moderately talented and has a decent chin, is gonna be heaps of trouble for Gamboa.

"The candle that burns twice as bright, burns half as long". I think that's how history will look back on Gamboa's career at the rate he's going.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

Good saying, rings true.I think he is explosive and makes for great exciting fights but honestly Imo,I think he's a train wreck waiting to happen. Also his size/weight....looks so bulked up and should not go running through weight classes as some do too early on.

He was fighting 126 in amateurs, I just think he is ripped ,and relatively short at 5'5. That being said I still think he needs a Floyd Mayweather Snr. type guy who will say fuck your credentials, you are going to do things my way.

Was fairly shocked to see him leaving his chin out in his last bout in the middle of his combos especially the ending one. I guess you just don't pick up on that stuff in the amateurs because of the headgear but damn, fundamentals. That is fundamental, you can't do that. I used to get on Zab a lot for his fundamental mistakes (more like un-focused mistakes) because he has sooo much talent but gets beat by guys like Carlos Baldomir because he is fundamentally flawed at times. Gamboa is much the same except much worse imo then Zab ever was at any stage of his pro career.

I also think Mayweather is a good fit because he makes the most of guys who are so fast, but the language barrier could prove to be a problem.

Sigh, no, read the whole sentence. I hate fighters who WASTE their talent or don't have it. If this was a multiple choice which category do you think a olympic champion with top of the line athletic abilities and amazing combinations, and slick defensive moves would fall under?

I said Gamboa before his last fight needs to get more technical in his approach, he is far too wild and his defense is actually shocking. If Juan Manuel Lopez moves up anytime soon Gamboa will be in big trouble.

I think avoiding punches while using your reflexes is more of a natural instinct, although Gamboa has the ability to use his reflexes to avoid punches. He just doesn't seem to have the instinct to do it and he likes to exchange punches far too much.

I mean take Amir Khan for example he changed to a different trainer, to help on his defense. And the trainer was supposedly giving him a little hit, everytime he didn't put his hands. But what happens when he actually fights ? he makes the same mistake he always does.

When he finishes throwing a punch and when he moves backwards, his hands always drop which leaves him open for counter shots. And thats why he got caught with that left hook from Prescott. As i said i think its more of natural instinct.

Now the question is can this be drummed into Gamboa's head ? or will they teach him a more technical type of defense ? we will have to wait and see. But all i know is that if he doesn't get more technical in his approach soon, your gonna be seeing another highly regarded prospect get upset very soon.

You can be defensive with your hands down, but then you have to use distance as your ally. I think Gamboa would have an amazing defense if he didn't throw so many punches with his chin wide open, when him and his opponent are legitimately going one punch for one punch he seems almost impossible to hit, but when he starts throwing his combinations is when he gets countered.
