Sigh, no, read the whole sentence. I hate fighters who WASTE their talent or don't have it. If this was a multiple choice which category do you think a olympic champion with top of the line athletic abilities and amazing combinations, and slick defensive moves would fall under?

I said Gamboa before his last fight needs to get more technical in his approach, he is far too wild and his defense is actually shocking. If Juan Manuel Lopez moves up anytime soon Gamboa will be in big trouble.

I think avoiding punches while using your reflexes is more of a natural instinct, although Gamboa has the ability to use his reflexes to avoid punches. He just doesn't seem to have the instinct to do it and he likes to exchange punches far too much.

I mean take Amir Khan for example he changed to a different trainer, to help on his defense. And the trainer was supposedly giving him a little hit, everytime he didn't put his hands. But what happens when he actually fights ? he makes the same mistake he always does.

When he finishes throwing a punch and when he moves backwards, his hands always drop which leaves him open for counter shots. And thats why he got caught with that left hook from Prescott. As i said i think its more of natural instinct.

Now the question is can this be drummed into Gamboa's head ? or will they teach him a more technical type of defense ? we will have to wait and see. But all i know is that if he doesn't get more technical in his approach soon, your gonna be seeing another highly regarded prospect get upset very soon.

You can be defensive with your hands down, but then you have to use distance as your ally. I think Gamboa would have an amazing defense if he didn't throw so many punches with his chin wide open, when him and his opponent are legitimately going one punch for one punch he seems almost impossible to hit, but when he starts throwing his combinations is when he gets countered.
