Listening to B-Hop talking to Pavlick after the fight, it was like an adult talking to a child, gotta say I really like Pavlick and have utmost repsect for Hopkins.
The biggest difference between Calzaghe/Hopkins and Pavlik/Hopkins is that Pavlik requires to be set when throwing punches, while Calzaghe throws punches regardless.
Calzaghe threw punches even when not set or out of range. he did not let Hopkins movement or countering deter him, which in itself, made Hopkins a bit hesitant.
Pavlik would not throw punches when off kilter. He seemed lost last night. Weight or anything had nothing to do with him losing. It was Hopkins movement and timing that got to him. He was reacting to Hopkins instead of making his own fight. Joe fell into Hopkins trap also, but not nearly as bad as Pavlik did.
It is strange really. I am not sure what Pavlik was expecting going into the fight.
Indeed Styles make fights. It was obvious going into last night that Pavlik did not posses the over all gears in movement, hand speed/volume,guile and depth as Calzaghe.Calzaghe took a nip & tuck fight against Hopkins, victory well earned. You know Joe was sitting some where at the end last night and grinning ear to ear knowing what he earned and had shown vs. Hopkins.Imo,he'll repeat it vs. Jones Jr. But last night was all about Hopkins.
It was about a much younger ,undefeated, undisputed champion & proven power house in Pavlik going against one of the best overall ring tacticians and fighting minds over the last couple of decades.Pavlik was nullified from jump off and Hopkins mind set was clearly more focused and assertive from,he never gave A legitimate offensive threat the chance to get started...he could not sit back and try to pot shot and let Pav find momentum and confidence,no cutesy coasting .His ability to maintain,at the age and on weathered legs, and not fall into the mauling and pedestrian pace surprised me.Thought he would win it but I just did not think he had that much offense and over all command left.It truly was a great performance by a great fighter.Styles make fight's.... fighters exploit and counter styles.Need coffee
Hopkins moved more, punched more, and clinched less last night.
Do the math - that means he WORKED more last night and for 12 rounds.
Against Calzaghe he punched less, moved less, clinched more,
and took breaks on low blows.. but was winded after the 7th round.
The OP is 100% correct in saying that hopkins was a different fighter last night.
His cardio was much better and he was 10x more active and worked 10x harder then
he did against cazlaghe. Calzaghe did nothing to wear him down or tire him out, but
he got tired... Last night he didn't.
I'll argue that he was better trained for the fight tonight than against Calzaghe.
I haven't seen the fight as of yet because I couldn't stay up till 4AM and watch it as I was in work early this morning. No problem. Setanta Sports have a replay showing at 8PM. Little over an hour. I'm gonna tune in and can then comment on the fight. Seem like Pavlik got beat bad.
I was dead wrong about B-hop and my prediction. Although I don't think Kelly is that plodder some people are making him out to be. I think it was B-Hop who was that good. I have never seen B-Hop so active, throwing punches in combination, slipping, blocking, rolling all the tricks in the bag for this fight. To me this was the best B-Hop I've seen in ten years.Better than the Tito fight better than the Oscar fight and yes better than the Tarver fight.
That's rubbish.. it can be equally claimed Calzaghe wasn't 100% against Hopkins due to looking better against numerous opponents in the past - YET still BEAT Hopkins. Fact.
Hopkins looked better against Pavlik, than he did Calzaghe, because Pavlik is a much LESSER fighter than Calzaghe. Simple as.

Don't be an idiot. Did you not read what I said?
I didn't say Pavlik made bhop look better thus hopkins wasnt 100% versus Calzaghe.
I said Hopkins worked much harder last night then against Calzaghe without getting tired,
so it can be argued that his Cardio was better last night than in the calzaghe fight.
Meaning he wasn't as prepared.
Hopkins MADE Calzaghe look that bad, get over it. He looked like an amateur because of hopkins style. By "your" logic, and Calzaghe not being 100% for not looking as stellar versus previous opponents - you'd STILL be wrong.
Because NO ONE has ever looked good against bhop, who's had a longer career, so Cal fits right in.
Anyway - I'll repeat.
Hopkins Did more moving, Threw more punching, Clinched less (had less breaks).
Meaning he fought a much more active fight and actually did it for 12 rounds last night.
Against Calzaghe Hopkins didn't Throw as man, CLINCHED ALOT (rest), Didn't move as much, And even took breaks on low blows, more rest. But Was TIRED after the 7th round.
Do you see the point I'm trying to make yet? Hopkins, cardio-wise, was a superior fighter last night than against Calzaghe.. which hints he was probably not as prepared. Had he fought calzaghe with the gas tank he had last night, it would have been a more active fight.
Hopkins was in better shape for Pavlik than he was for Calzaghe?
That explains why he totally outclassed and controlled a limited slow guy that didn't have the ability to hit him.. yet couldn't stay with a guy that constantly pressured him, throwing a million punches from all over the place.
Yeah.. I get ya. That makes perfect sense.

You really are an idiot, aren't you?
Calzaghe threw a zillion slaps and hardly any landed. Hopkins offense wasn't as active against Calzaghe, he didn't move as much as he did last night, he had more rests inside the clinch with calzaghe, and he even had time inbetween low blow counts to take a rest.
Last night he was more offensive, he moved more, he clinched less meaning he had less breaks and there were no time outs for low blows.
He did this for 12 rounds last night. for 12 rounds he exherted more energy than he did in the calzaghe fight, but was tired in 7 against calzaghe. What don't you understand?
Can someone with a brain reply to me please? I'm done.
Here.. i'll make this easy for you.
I JOG tomorrow and can only do a mile.
then RUN next week and can do 2 miles.
When was I in better shape?
