One is racial, the other is national. The Klitschko's being white doesn't have a ton to do with why I like them. I like the way they fight and the way they carry themselves, I can identify with it. I can't identify with James Toney or Antonio Tarver never showing ANY respect for ANYONE...I mean at some point in time respect is deserved and should be granted.

I can identify with Duran being a blatant asshole but I find that to be different because he didn't promote himself at the same time he was just angry. I liked Foreman too and he was a mean SOB....I don't really like the guys who brag like Tarver and Toney but I like the mean bastards like Duran, Foreman, and Tyson. I would rather be mean to everyone than not show respect to them...don't know if that's just playing favorites or if there is an actual difference.

2. You may be right in a few instances, that's fine. I didn't mean to imply there's never been a black boxer that could be legitimately accused of racial bias--really I was unclear that that's what you were saying, but I get it now. Right, since those people have so much power in the US. I think there is more understandable resentment at long-term economic oppression than there is "anti-white" racism--if it presents itself in that guise it's unfortunate, but I think you need to distinguish between rich, powerful white people calling black people monkeys, screwing low-income areas over on education so that they'll never be able to achieve anything, etc., on the one hand, and poor, disempowered people lashing out at (concededly overbroadly) at those they feel (rightly to a large extent) are responsible for the situation they're in.

Nationalism is often brought out in things like the Olympics, when you hear the National Anthem, (the song that represents the people in a particular geographic area.) and the extra pride you feel for that person who not only represents them selves, but your country.

Having been to 2 different Olympics I must say it is one of the best thrills in sports to root for your country's athletes/teams against other nations!!! Healthy competition...to equate it only with war & nazis is ridiculous!!

Ali & Tyson were both muslims, so that is not surprising & with the exception of Toney, I dont see any racist influence on Taylor, Tarver, Wright, Mayweather or other black boxers!! I didnt catch the Toney-Rahman post fight presser where Toney badmouthed white fighters...are you saying he got cheered for that at the press conference?

I consider myself blue collar, atleast from that type of background and thats unfortunate for meh, so the next best thing is to fight against it . Just sit back and enjoy the chess match if you're not familiar with the fighters. If you completely must 'root' for someone then wait till you've seen a little bit of the fight. Chris Rock said it best "Anyone who makes up their mind before they hear the issue is a F****** fool", in boxing it's before you 'see' the issue.

And yes i must root for someone, the house rule (my house) is you got to pick your fighter befor the fight. And as a general rule someone else will take the other guy. We get to talk trash, point fingers, say how the oposing fighter is a dirty fighter, bla, bla, bla. It makes for a good time for my kids and I. Much like what goes on befor and after fights here on this forum.
