Nearly every champion will have his resume scrutinized one way or another. If you stay in one weight class too long, your ducking bigger fighters, if you move up, your running from someone, if you score an impressive win, your opponent was overrated to begin with, if you lose, you sucked all along and merely got exposed. From being protected to outpricing yourself, there are only a handful of fighters who have been able to earn universal respect.

im not a great fan of joe c. but its a great record he has got and he can box. he is a bit of a w#'ker for not fighting roy in his prime but thats history.
this is present day, and this is what is happening now.
A great joe c vs an old roy jones..i hope roy wins but after seeing 24/7 and his training partners it dont look too good..but perhaps he knows something we all dont know.

Calzaghe would have beaten Pavlik (that we can agree on).

But his style is AWFUL and his attitude too.

    Not a fan.

The Calzaghe hates borders on the obsessive and its trite and pathetic.

Its my perception that Calzaghe provokes such a reaction for a number of reasons. I think one of the main reasons is that Calzaghe is a very decent looking guy. Whereas the majority of posters and boxers in general are ugly or just plain looking. Harsh, but probably true, a jealousy thing with a little sprinkling of envy. Look at Margarito, Hopkins and Pavlik. They are big names and they are all plain or ugly. They certainly dont provoke so much a reaction as Calzaghe.

Calzaghe is cocky, arrogant and sure of himself. That probably rubs people up the wrong way too. But the guy is unbeaten, extremely skilled at what he does. He knows he's a bloody good fighter. He has every right to indulge in his whims every now and then in interviews and contradict himself. Most of us do anyway, why should it be any different for Joe because a camera is there.

And Calzaghe's resume is very decent. Compare it to most other big names out there. Calzaghe has fought a number of very credible opponents. He's clearly stepped it up a notch over the past few years with Kessler, Lacy and Hopkins. Only Manfredo can be critisized in recent times. And the Jones fight is one of the biggest money fights that can be made. MSG, home and US interest...it will do well for both men.

The haters can keep on hating, but screw them. They are just ugly bastards with axes to grind.

Great posting Miles I totally agree. I have always admitted my loathing for David Haye comes about frankly because I am offended by his ridiculous level of 'buffness' and the fact that millions of girls want to have sex with him.

Calzaghe though is more of a quiet homely type and so doesn't get my jealousy buds tickling.

Plus I imagine that Joe is only averagely endowed whereas Haye is no doubt swinging a Grand National winning tackle down there, and my jealous little black heart can't stand it

Exactly. I see nothing to hate in Calzaghe whatsoever. My only critisism is that he did have a few too many fillers after beating Eubank. But when called on to beat good fighters, he has always got the job done.

I think Joe comes across as a fairly normal guy. The stay home type, likes simple comforts, has a bit of an arrogant streak when he gets hungry. Most people can relate to that.

As for David Haye. Well, I just think he looks like a laughing hyena. I can't take him seriously at all. And his hair is gay 80% of the time. And he looks like a complete homosexual in Leftlee's avatar with those waving Union Jack's. It has nothing to do with his penis, as far as I am conciously aware. But subconciously, I couldnt say. Haye comes across to me as being all flash and no substance. He probably reads books upsidedown and thinks he's looking cool in a pair of spectacles.
