He would have lost anyway, but looking back on it, Pavlik did look under the weather. He might have done a little better, but it was pretty clear Hopkins had him sussed out and Kelly was in for boxing lesson, even at 100%. If he were healthy, it might have been a little more entertaining.

here is another snippet from the same Article. It looks like Pavlik's father was worried.
"At eleven o’clock, Loew gloved Kelly up.
Fighter and trainer began working the pads. It was Kelly’s first strenuous exercise of the night.
“Double jab,” Loew instructed. “That’s it. Chin down. Aggressive but patient.”
Kelly began to cough.
“Stick to the game plan. Nice and easy. Double the jab.”
The hard edge that had permeated the dressing room prior to Kelly’s recent fights didn’t seem to be there.
“That’s it. Punish him. Hard to the body. If you hit him on the belt and he turns to the referee to bitch, jump on his ass.”
Each time Loew took a break, Kelly went into the adjacent bathroom, coughed, and spat out phlegm. The third time he did it, Mike Pavlik turned away in a corner of the room, pressed both fists against the wall, and took a deep breath. A very deep breath. “Christ,” he murmured.
I remember Naz fought Medina with flu and Hatton fought Urango with or after a chest infection but neither of these compare to Mike Tyson he fought Ettienne with a broken back lol![]()
At this point, all this stuff doesn't really matter. If this was the case, Kelly should've never fought Hopkins as scheduled and postponed the match. I honestly thought Pavlik didn't look like his usual self but Hopkins had him so dominated that I don't think being 100% healthy would've won him the fight. Maybe a round here and there, but that kind of Hopkins wasn't losing a fight.
This happens all the time in boxing, usually only big money fighters are the one who will pull out of a scheduled fight. It is a thing every fighter has to cope with, you can't be 100%, 100% of the time. All these excuses, if they are coming from his camp seem desperate. Like they need something to take away from the schooling, which puts a bad light on his trainer.
He landed more than Trinidad did, but not more than MOsley or Taylor or Quartey I don't think. I think Winky being more stationary he takes more damage, but 90% of it is through his gloves ,but even at 160 I think he is a little less cut then when he was younger, and guys with extra weight tend to puff up more.
It couldn't have been that bad otherwise the fight wouldn't have went ahead.
