First off Jason Matthews is my Dad
what happened to him, the reason that the Armand Krajnc fight (the defence of the WBO title) was stopped was that my dads eye had swolen and closed up. as a result of a thumb in the eye my dad was partial blind in his right eye for a while. and after god knows how many surgeries the surgeon's basically fucked his eye up even more. therefore was unable to compete in the ring anymore.

this is also true, but not gonna discuss that over here and that was back in 2000 for 6 months
Oh also the fight with Ryan Rhodes, my dad had 5 days to prepare for the fight and had only buried my grandmother, so that fight was always gonna be a win for my dad, to much pain, hence why he cries in the interview after the fight
proud day for my dad, i was only 9
p.s. GAME Frank Warren is a slimly B*****D, after my dad won the WBO Intercontinental Belt Warren just wanted money, nothing else!
Although my dad did let the belt get to his head the ref should have never stopped the fight. the Defence of the WBO as i explained before, my dad never got picked apart, he got an illegal thumb in the eye, i've seen the fight 1000000 times i know when it happens and it happens more than twice
anyway im rambling on
Nice one Perez Hope things are Good.

One of the best days seeing Mathews spark Rhodes. Awesome performance, wanted Jason to do well. Mathews was built like Bruno and had heavy hands but could box as well. Should have gone a lot further. Still brought some great memories.

Well i guess he retired as there is only so many times you can glue glass back together.

Hey Perez,
It is obvious that you are proud of your old man. Has he has achieved what a lot of us people can only dream of. Boxing is a hard game and only the select few manage to reach the top.
I went to the same school as your old man and also remember seeing him in his first and second pro fights at the Albert Hall and then the London Arena.
It's a shame that his career ended so soon and the way it did as I believe that he could have gone on to bigger and better things but always remember that everything happens for a reason and what happened was meant to happen.
His success in the ring has obviously been surpassed by his success outside the ring as he has brought up some well adjusted children and for that he should be even more proud than the title of the champion of the world.
All the best my friend
Well said and great post.

I'd love to know how many people in this thread are posting from the same IP address. Call me synical but I've never seen so many new posters turn up in a thread to contribute to a discussion that is fairly niche in boxing terms.
If we have a thread about say - Mike Tyson we would get a new poster called John Tyson who happened to be Mike's son , telling us all is good lol , then he would never post again
