Joe has put himself in a lose/lose situation. Joe wins...he will have beaten a clearly past his prime Roy Jones. He loses...his already questionable resume will look that much worse.

I don't think anything he could do here would appease the haters. Even if he knocks him out cold, folks will just say that Jones was past it and Tarver and Johnson did the same thing. If Calzaghe wanted to improve his legacy, he should have taken the Pavlik fight, then he could have gotten the bigger payday with Jones for his farewell. After seeing how poorly Pavlik deals with movement and superior hand speed, I have little doubt Calzaghe would have won a wide decision and he'd be the guy getting praised for beating the young lion. Passing on that fight was a mistake, but I guess hindsight is 20/20.

    Exactly.

If he bashes the sh1t out of roy jones, roy is past his prime right now therefore joe wont get the respect for it.

The haters will say that he beat a washed up roy jones.

Its so sad that jones never fought calzaghe 8 years back when calzaghe offered it to him and jones refused.

Even if joe bashes jones then the haters will still spout 'but a prime jones would have beaten joe'...when all this is just simply hate.

Jones never fought anyone as good as calzaghe in his entire career, calzaghe has never fought anyone as good as a prime jones in his career.

So its a pretty meaningless fight (unless jones wins), but if calzaghe wins then all we know is that both calzaghe and jones are the best super middle weights ever (which we know anyway)...and that the real loss is boxing itself BECAUSE THESE GUYS NEVER FOUGHT EARLIER.

Some people will still rate jones higher than calzaghe, others will rate calzaghe higher than jones, its entirely up to the person AND THATS THE BEAUTY OF BOXING...EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION AND IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINION...WITHOUT OPINIONS WE WOULDNT HAVE DISCUSSION AND THE BOARD WOULD BE V BORING

Either way, if calzaghe wins then he will go down on paper as the greatest super middle weight ever, but who knows...had they fought earlier (when it was offered to jones, 8 or so years back but he declined), jones wouldve gone down on paper as being the greatest.

I'll also add, just because someone goes down on paper as being the greatest, doesnt mean they were the best, just means they achieved the most. But then again, that is what competitive sport is about, about achievement.

Might as well leave it at that, 2 legends fighting each other, LETS ENJOY WATCHING THESE 2 GET IN THE RING TOGETHER AND SEE WHAT FIREWORKS MAY OR MAY NOT HAPPEN

    As boxing fans!

    Mine wasn't a time machine.

7 years ago they'd both have been younger.

I said fight him 7 years ago, not "just" fight the Jones of 7 years ago.

I think RJJ summed up the fight on 1st episode of 24/7 when he said i'f RRJ loses no one cares but if Calzaghe loses'

cant remember exact words, but i also felt RJJ was selling himself a little short with that comment

By that he was saying Jones had no pressure on himself but Joe did have the pressure on himself to remain unbeaten in his last fight.

As long as the ref can count to 10 when Calzaghe is KO'd or wave a fight off when Calzaghe is taking to much punishment i don't care who it is
