I remember laughing uncontrollably watching Jones beat up Pazienza.....it was just that funny.
Honestly,I don't think Calzaghe would have touched a prime Jones.Forget about it.BUT.....Roy is no where near his prime and has done very well resurecting himself over last 3 fights & lining this one up.
Like I already said joe most likely would not win, but I would bet my ass he'd go more than 5 rounds, I'm pretty dam sure he'd go the whole 12. I mean calzaghe would be one of the best fighters roy has faced, and roy would be the best fighter joe has faced. I know there are lots of people that discount what joe does and has done and deify roy, but to simply smirk and say joe wouldn't last 5 is really unwarranted. Joe has a solid enough chin and roy is fast but joe has enough speed himself to not get caught with everything roy would throw his way. There have been lesser fighters that have went 12 with a prime or near prime roy, I'm certain joe could do the same.

Joe is a great champion and a competitor, so he definitely would have competed with a prime Roy. But could he have beaten him? No, I don't think he could win more than 2-3 rounds at best.

Fantastic video.
Love me some prime Jones Jr.
A prime Roy takes Joe if not by mid/late TKO, then with scores along the lines of 10-2 (rds).
I think alot of folks chipped at Roy's legacy after the losses to Johnson and Tarver. But those of us that watched Roy come up know better. He was an absolute phenom at his peak and you, me , and everybody else hadn't ever seen anyone anything like him.
One of the most naturally gifted athletes in sports history.
Calzaghe will be lucky to beat an old roy.

Non seqiutar! (sp)
Roy would whip him, honestly IMO I think there are a few guys in their prime that would have beaten Calzaghe like
1. Roy
2. Michael Nunn
3. James Toney(I see this a 50/50 fight. but calzaghe would get hit by that right counter all night, and James hit hard at MW/SMW)
4. bernad hopkins
5. Maybe Gerald McClellan
i still think if jones fights a very good fight i think he will beat joe i hate to say it, tysonbruno and dark lord al will be chuffed
i think a great fight by both fighters ending in a draw would be nice

I think it's kind of amusing the almost mythical status Jones Jr of a decade ago has.
Personally I think a prime Roy Jones versus a prime Joe Calzaghe is one hell of a matchup.
Jones would have to be favourite but those who think Calzaghe would get blown away in 5 rounds are just wishful thinking.
Calzaghe has never even lost a fight let alone been knocked out, his chin is as solid and proven as Hopkins or Jame Toney.
Whenever they fought it goes the distance imo and the fact is, as Roy Jones even says himself, he has never fought a fighter like Calzaghe either so we really don't know for sure what would happen.
Roy Jones is sucking Calzaghe's left nut at this point.
And Calzaghe definitely doesn't ahve Toney's chin. Despite one weight drained fight against Reggie Johnson when has Toney ever been hurt all the way up to heavyweight? Calzaghe was hurt in his fight against Mitchell and he was hurt several times against Kessler, and he was hurt several times against Hopkins. I agree he has a good chin, but it can't compare to Merqui Sosa's chin.
Bilbo, I didn't realize you loved Calzaghe to the point of open denile to the truth. Roy Jones Jr clearly would dominate Calzaghe. Calzaghe has made a living off being a little too quick for opponents to take advantage of his huge technical mistakes, I think he gets away with it against almost every fighter which makes him a great fighter in his own right, but a 43 year old Hopkins showed to a degree the gapping holes in Calzaghe's style. He is wide open to the right hand, he throws silly punches and he was lucky that Hopkins was gassed out because a prime Roy Jones Jr is countering Calzaghe consistently in situations that nobody else, even Bernard, would even realize what happened. Watch what Roy did to Reggie Johnson( a fast handed southpaw) when he tried to throw even a jab. Roy caught him with a beautiful left hook right cross combination that made you wonder what just happened. Calzaghe wouldn't be able to deal with it. Kessler was able to counter Calzaghe effectively, but he was there to be hit, yet guys like James Toney who is a great counter puncher had no answer for Roy Jones Jr's combinations, speed, and lateral movement.
All in All Roy would box circles around Joe.
