If I understand your question correctly.
A left jab should be a straight shot,the right cross while it should be driven to the same spot,it should have a head in the way so it never gets there.
And if you can move your opponent that much with your cross, please call me. I think I can work with you

I haven't been hit in the head at all lately but i'm feeling more retarded than usual. I just don't get this.

Wouldn't the head usually be knocked back slightly rather than coming forward?

So the right cross wouldn't have your opponent's head in the way of reaching the same point as the jab at all but actually probably be able to move further forward?

Or do you mean the head in the way is your own replacing the point where your opponent was before they went back after a really good jab or just in retreat?

Your driving with your hips to a point,you dont actually expect to get to that point, but its a way to visualize what your trying to do. Thats where alot of trainers go wrong,your teaching a visualization process. Not a legitimate expectation.
You need to visualize being able to follow through your punch for it to really be able to do the damage its supposed to.

Almost on the nose, you want that bag to rock when your on it,making contact wont do it,youve got to drive the shot through.
Even with the jab,when your holding the stand,you want to feel your about to be tossed of it by your fighter, then you know youve got something there.

Sort of, a cross or a hook or difficult to describe if you dont have the kid right there
You want to look at a point past where you expect the shot to land,and visualize the shot landing there.Its not going to actually land there, because theres going to be a person in the way, but you need to be aiming there with the person in the way.
Its alot easier to explain when the fighters in the gym, but you want to be envisioning a spot about a half a foot where you know the shots going to land

this is exactly why hitting an opponent feels so much more natural than hitting a bag or mitts. the softer flesh of the human torso notwithstanding of course.
