    thanks for the good advice guys, my coach reckons cos i am short and a southpaw that the regular stance is better but im def getting better results from side on and not eating as much punches so i will keep working on it and try and get the best overall way .

    I started out in a Tyson like stance, because I watched too much Tyson fights. Through the years I switched more and more to a side on stance. It puts the shoulder in line to help with defense, and frees the front (left in my case) arm for offensive purposes.

    thats a good point RDJ you definitely are influenced by watching your fave boxers and my defence is a lot tighter in side on, think i was watching a lot of pro boxing and that is a different game than amature

    That because your presenting less of a target, your opponent has to set you up through a series of shots rather then being presented with an obvious target.

    this is true, sparred tonight and found that i worry less about defence(cos smaller target area for opponent) so i got more time to think about landing my own shots, thanks for all the advice, has made a big difference, cheers
