Speedballs, are a useless bit of Kit. If you want speed, train with your eyes shut. Eyes is the sense that slows you down.

Hey Scrap we like to chat about body memory and how fast it evolves etc.
I dropped a block of stone onto my large big toe and broke the fukker a year or so ago (yeah the stone broke too.)
The nail eventually grew back on that toe but is at least 3 times thicker than the other big toe nail its more protected than any of them now!
    The body is great ,
(but its still a twit if it thinks Im making that mistake again).

Have you ever seen a beginner trying to use a speed ball? They are all tense and they try to hit it by watching the swing rather than timing it. If you rely on watching punches coming to you rather than timing and preempting their arrival, your going to have a face full of leather more often than not. Your brain takes till to decode what you see, then to make a decision on what to do once it acknowledges a fist coming toward your face. It's why bob and weaving can be effective as people punch to where they last saw your head, rather than where your head is going to be.
