He should have tried to earn a rematch a long time ago by taking on a Taylor or Lacy instead of fighting for an alphabet title and going into mediocrity.

I'm not one for rematches either but Kessler came on in the last round and won it. If only he would have put it into overdrive in round 8 or 9.

You can only expend so much during one bout. Not that it's anywhere near that simple... it's not just a case of who's putting the most effort in.

If he'd put into round 8 or 9 what he'd put into the 12th there's no guaranteeing that he would of made it to the 12th.

Truth is that Joe was able to let his foot off the gas and simply not get knocked out in the 12th, guaranteeing a win.

I really don't see the point of a rematch at this point in Joe Calzaghe's career. I thought Joe Calzaghe won pretty comfortably 8-4 or 9-3. Once Joe Calzaghe adjusted after the 4th round it was all Joe Calzaghe, and Mikkel Kessler looked very dishearten.

I like Mikkel Kessler and this was a good win for Joe Calzaghe, but Mikkel Kessler has done nothing to warrant a rematch. He had chances to fight fighters like Edison Miranda ETC. But decided to waste this whole year fighting nobodies.

Kessler in most international observers' eyes gave Joe a closer fight than Hopkins did. Most international observers see Hopkins wining 1-3 rounds, whle most agree that Kessler won 3-6 rounds (rounds 1-5 + round 12). If Kessler was American there would probably be a unanimous cry for a rematch and most US media would see it as a robbery (although the rest of the world would still see it as close but no robbery at all). Now, some American fans even try to make the Hopkins fight seem close eventhough that wasn;t nearly as competitive
Super Middleweight also acknowledge as Kessler's Kingdom when Calzaghe has retire

there is no way that kessler vs calzaghe was a closer fight than when he fought bhop. maybe a rematch would be different but the first fight Joe beat kessler up and down the ring. and for the record kessler doesnt even deserve a rematch if anything he should fight Taylor and he might not even get past him.

I would rather see the Hopkins rematch TBH....Both men fough horrible in their first meeting...Though Joe got the decision it was not his best performance...not his best effort IMO...Hopkins looked horrible as well...

If Hopkins put the performance on he did against Pavlik and Calzaghe the one he did against Jones it would be a damn entertaining bout

If anyone believes that then there insane, it was an easy win for Joe Calzaghe. I don't care what some idiots think, they can't score a fight if they scored it that way.

Bernard Hopkins vs Joe Calzaghe was much closer and i personally had Bernard Hopkins winning based on the knockdown. He landed the cleaner more effective shots, and Joe Calzaghe could never get going with his offense.

Yeah the shots were so effective he did nothing but back peddle all night and got hit more than any other fight he had ever been in with, they were so effective.

and i don't think anyone would be shocked that you of all people would have Calzaghe lossing a fairly close fight.

Hell it's a wonder you haven't gone on about how he is prone to straight right hands again, you must be closing in on the 1 millionth mark for that one, i heard saddo has a band booked for the land mark post.

The argument for a Kessler rematch shouldnt be that Kessler's fight was closer,in all honesty I had the Hopkins fight for Bernard just on cleaner shots, the argument should be that Kessler was hurt for the first one.
Joe obviously won that fight, but he was fighting a one handed opponent.
Being an American with no stake in the first Calzeghe Kessler,Joe won the fight, but to settle it once and for all there should be a rematch, because of the injury.
