The only thing that would justify his backing out right now, would be because he is in negotiations with Mayweather. Who just happens to be training full time again.

Other than that, he is wasting a 2 million dollar payday while waiting for Cotto's return. During that time he could have earned 2 Million Dollars. That would have been his biggest payday and one he was very capable of winning.

Pffft I guess we need to change his nickname to Tony "Money" Margarito. Shane is too scary I guess, I bet he realizes he will lose a decision to shane who won't wilt like Cotto did.....hypocrite.

He's not turning down 8 million like Mayweather, guys!!! (And only fighting little welterweight chumps)

Nevertheless, I don't like his decision. It'd be a great fight. I still think Margarito has 2, at most 3 great fights left in him.

... 2 million, last I heard it was that much... is still A LOT!

See what i mean guys/girls ? thats exactly what i was saying earlier in this thread, Antonio Margarito would get his biggest paycheck against Shane Mosley. It would be a great fight and Antonio Margarito has always wanted the fight.

Yet when Shane Mosley calls him out on it and Antonio Margarito avoids the fight. Antonio Margarito gets praised for avoiding the fight what the hell ?

And if anyone believe's Antonio Margarito's offer of 8 million to Floyd Mayweather. There kidding themselves no way a no namer like Antonio Margarito would generate that amount.

And Floyd Mayweather had a much better offer of getting 8 million, and a shot at the Linear Welterweight title. Because Carlos Baldomir had beaten the man at that time Zab Judah fact.

Why does Floyd Mayweather get called a chicken for turning down fights, and why does Antonio Margarito get praised for turning down fights. Answer me that ?

Don't forget he turned down $4 million for a rematch with Williams, too. I don't want to hear anymore about people ducking Margarito.

Funny how hypocritical some boxers and boxing fans can be. I'm sure you people that are saying "well maybe he's holding out for bigger money so its OK" are the same guys who blasted FLoyd for not fighting Marg in order to make 3 or 4 times the money fighting ODLH.

This doesn't surprise me much...Shane is a faster boxer than Cotto, he's not better but he can shoot off 3-4 punches and move the hell out of the way better than Cotto.

I would really like to see Margarito-De la Hoya....because I doubt Oscar can whip him

If I know anything about Margarito, something is going to pull through and make something happen. The man DOES want exciting fights! For pete's sake, he took on Williams and Cotto.

Imagine that! The man making a thought out business decision with the entirety of career in mind.I think maybe we have become a little too accustomed to the face first fighting style and forget that every fighter worth their salt is a calculator,in the ring but also when considering whats best for them selves and bigger picture.Surly their is more to come and I for one do not pretend to be in his head and what other factors come into play for bigger career picture.Save all of the non sense also,No pussy he,no coward he...thats trifling!Save the hypocrite talk as well.Tony has faced Williams,Clottey,Cotto,Cintron x 2.All viable top ten welter contenders/champions!! But I'll spot you Zab & even Hatton at welter...but just remember Zab is Zab

Point blank,Margarito worked the situation,Shouted loud and got a reaction for negotiating, etc and to practice a key rule in life...Keep your options open!No different than many others. He was not just going along for the ride.As to what is down the road, your guess is as good as mine, likely a sooner rematch with Cotto?Fact is,Tony does not need Mosley at this point. In the HUGE picture, what does this gain him?All respect to Mosley but was he or was he not in for a hellish night?Honestly?Yes....I dislike inactivity and very much would have anticipated this match but put it in a very long line of big fights that do not come off. Also, sure is convenient that Mosley is already slated to fight Berto, date and all!A fight that Imo,He should be a clear favorite thus gaining a title ,bargaining power and future big paydays.Sounds pretty smart to me!No apologies, for once Margarito is a shot caller and has options!Fawking good for him.Something tells me we are not seeing the behind the scenes happenings.Might be in for a suprise or two.

At least Berto has a good stepping stone in Mosley, I don't see Mosley giving him many troubles, he is too faster, too good, too hard to hit cleanly.

I don't think Margarito should have been fighting Mosley to begin with, Cotto beat Mosley convincingly in a tough fight, MAyweather might be coming back, Clottey stills deserves another shot, and of course Paul Williams beat Margarito, and has really redeemed his slip up against Quintana.

I just don't see Mosley ever having the tools to beat a guy like Margarito, he isn't a great mover, he's relatively easy to hit, and he doesn't deal well with taller guys that put a lot of pressure on him.

Im a person of principle and it seems like Tony is getting a gate pass for what Mayweather was getting crucified for.. and as big as a Tony fan as I am he is pissing away momentum by doing the same thing as he did with with mayweather.. Living and dying at Cotto's doorstep...

Tony is screwing up big time by not taking the 2 mill and asserting himself over Mosley.. He is taking his wear and tear and age to another year in anticipation of fighting Cotto and banking on no injury to either in the meantime, so if it dosent go to plan he gets older and slower and is screwed... total stupidity, Margarito needs Shane and his draw and $$$$$$$$ Tony on his best day would struggle to this to fill a VFW let alone a colesium.. TAKE THE DAMN FIGHT TONY!!!!!

Beat Shane increase your drawing power by defeating a living legend and have that much more momentum and popularity to generate more money and more demand for yourself

Not sure about the Berto v. Shane call, but other than that, I agree with the post.
