I thought from the beginning that this fight was all wrong for him. There were doubts about his chin ever since the 3K Battery fight, his inside game is lacking (as we saw tonight), and Caballero is a hell of a guy for anyone to fight (though I think Vazquez, JMM, and maybe Marquez beat him).
I think there is a host of guys who can beat Caballero it is just that it was pretty obvious that there was a style problem for Molitor. Charles pretty accurately pointed out that Caballero doesn't lean in or get flatfooted to give up his height and the most dangerous tall fighter you can face is the tall fighter who is on his feet all the time and not punching from to far out or to far in, Caballero didn't and if Molitor wanted to counter on his feet that option was pretty much taken away from him. It looked like Molitor had watched Williams-Quintana I the way he was trying to time Caballero with the left jumping in but the reason Quintana was effective was because he nullified Williams offense first. Got to give angles, move laterally in both directions not just one and most importantly not get stuck on the ropes. Was shocked to see Molitor get stuck on the ropes so much early as usually he has a good sense of where he is at in the ring and I attributed it to nerves and thought it would play out differently over the second half of the fight but obviously that never came.
I kept thinking of Pep/Saddler during this fight (short, slick white guy with mimimal punching power vs tall, hard hitting black guy).
