You need to eat your cannabis, especially when you go somewhere stoned. Then you're just stoned and you don't have to worry about transporting, smoking the stuff, getting caught etc. Nothing harshes your mellow, you just enjoy whatever it is you've gone to see. It's a different high though, I preferred the way I felt after smoking it, though I enjoyed eating it as well. I also liked that smoking it was more predictable in terms of onset and duration.
