His personal religious beliefs had nothing to do with that, he didn't become religious until he had already been convicted. He was pissed about the goverment, not about the religion of those the government was oppressing. The religion itself was peripheral.

TM, we seem to be conducting different arguments. I am talking about killing as many civilians as possible. That rules out the first half of your post.

The India Pakistan thing is rooted in religion, the partition of India along Muslim/Hindu lines when Britain moved out in the late 40s.
