Roy Jones Jr would get him out of there in the middle rounds, Calzaghe was having difficulties finding Roy Jones Jr in the middle of the ring, and that was this verison of Roy JOnes Jr, who was just a little too slow to counter effectively. In his prime I think that Roy would make Calzaghe look foolish, he was too fast of foot for Calzaghe to get him on the ropes when he didn't want to be, he was too fast of hand, Calzaghe couldn't react to his punches that well at this point, Roy was way faster in his prime. Most importantly he hit way harder in his prime, like Calzaghe this version of Roy has taken a lot of power of his punches to substitute it for some modicum of speed. There is absolutely no way Calzaghe could beat Roy in his prime, IMO he was having a hard enough time before Roy got cut as it was.
Bernard Hopkins: Calzaghe has basically retained the same speed, the only thing he has less of right now in his career is power, but he wasn't able to land on Bernad with solid punches, and Hopkins wasn't throwing enough and couldn't maintain the pace. You plug even a 35 year old Hopkins in there and he has all the speed, endurance, and power to make Calzaghe life a living hell. I can't see Calzaghe beating Hopkins at his best.
James Toney: I think Calzaghe beats him, I used to think Toney would win, but he is too easy to hit, I am not sure if he could get his counters off as effectively as some think against Calzaghe who adapts so well, I think Toney counters him early, and gets Joe's respect, but Joe starts using lateral movement and combinations like a mundane RJJ, and Toney can't deal with the workrate and lateral movement.
Michael Spinks: If he can hurt Calzaghe, I think he could stop Calzaghe, but otherwise I don't see him dealing with the speed and workrate.
Bob Foster: edge to Foster, Its hard for people to appreciate how good Calzaghe is on the inside where he can smother Foster's power. I think its a close fight if Foster can consistently hurt Calzaghe, but I think he would which is why I give him the edge. However, he may be too slow.
