Good topic and a great opening post.
As was already stated, PPV has a place in boxing, it's just being grossly overused.
Floyd-Oscar, Lewis-Tyson, Oscar-Tito... fights like that will always have a place on PPV.
But fights like Cotto-Judah and Taylor-Pavlik II... those are high-quality fights that do NOT belong on PPV.
One of the worst developments in boxing over the last 20 years is when ABC Wide World of Sports discontinued its boxing coverage. Look at the big stars of the 70s and 80s... a lot of those guys became household names by appearing on that show. Leonard, Whitaker, Hagler, Holmes, Holyfield... all those guys fought key fights on free TV on ABC.
