Enzo Mac
The camp of former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli says former heavyweight champion Herbie Hide went AWOL after agreeing to fight Maccarinelli for the vacant WBO title on Saturday in London. "Herbie Hide agreed to the fight, and he agreed in a separate call with (BBBofC Secretary) Robert Smith," says promoter Frank Warren's matchmaker Dean Powell. "He told Robert Smith that he was going to fight and was going to have a check weigh-in, but never went to the check weigh-in yesterday." Sports Network says it sent out a contract finalizing the deal, but never heard back from Hide. "He disappeared," said Sport Network's Ed Simons. "A contract was negotiated and sent out and there was silence." Maccarinelli told the Western Mail, "I thought at one point it was going to be Herbie Hide and that would have been great because I really can't stand the guy. He's about the only guy I don't like in boxing and I would loved to have shut him up." He will now face little known light heavyweight Francisco Alvarez for the vacant belt.
Herbie Hide
Former WBO heavyweight champion and current cruiserweight contender Herbie Hide has commented on allegations from Sport Network that he agreed to fight Enzo Maccarinelli in London tomorrow, but then disappeared. "Warren and Maccarinelli have told everybody I would be running away from them – that’s just not true! I'm here and ready to go," states Hide. "In fact, Frank Warren knew all the time where I was. I have been in court with him because he still owes me money. Fact is that they offered me the fight only if I dropped the court case in return. I always said that I would take the fight as long as it doesn’t affect any legal issues I have to solve with Warren." Hide and Warren met in court on Wednesday. "I told Warren, the BBBoC and my promoter Ahmet Öner that I would take on Maccarinelli whenever he wants. It’s too bad that they already found some nameless tomato can for tomorrow.....as far as the 'Big Mac' is concerned, I will enjoy eating him alive! I heard Maccarinelli said I was the one guy in boxing he didn’t like. Well, guess what, Enzo, when we meet in the ring I will be the one guy who really tears you apart. If you think David Haye can punch just wait until you feel the power of the 'Dancing Destroyer.' I will wipe the canvas with your a** wherever and whenever you want."
Could be a big exciting fight for 2009 this
