Hagler lose on point's. Are you people on crack. Joe would go down in the first and stay down do to Hagler being one of the top finisher's of all time. Hagler lost only 1 big fight and with alot of contaversy. I don't think you guy's realize what a force Hagler was in his youth. Nobody wanted anything to do with him. He was robbed against Bobby BooGooLoo Watts in a hometown Philadelphia desicion. The only one people say he lost except Hagler's clan was Willie the Worm Monroe. Who he then knocked out in the twelfth round and 2nd round of the rematch and rubber match. Calzaghe would be caught early and often then knocked out cold as shown against most taller skinnier fighter's he fought.
You can't compare anyone Hagler fought to Calzaghe, none of them had the same style, sure Hearns and Leonard had his athleticism if not more, but they didn't impose themselves the same way, and they weren't naturally as big. Hagler didn't have that great of opposition besides the other three, and Duran went 15 close rounds with him, Leonard survived 12 with him. You are forgetting that everytime Calzaghe has been down, he would get right back up and force you back, and like I said a lot of that could just be ring rust because he doesn't spar in the gym.
Sigh, JOe's isn't a natural pressure fighter, he uses speed to put pressure on his opponent, and he doesn't have to just pressure the guy, he can fight off the back foot, he can box, he can scrap, all at the top level. I am not saying he would for sure win, but given his speed, his output, and his competitiveness I think he beats Hagler 6 out of 10 times.
Well you could say Marvin Hagler isn't a natural pressure fighter either, he can box, scrap, and fight on the backfoot very well. But i would say Joe Calzaghe is more of a natural pressure fighter than Marvin Hagler. Because Marvin Hagler started off as a boxer than turned into a pressure fighter in his later career.
I've seen pretty much almost every single Joe Calzaghe fight, and even in his early fights he come forward all the time pressuring his opponents all the time, i can't think of many fights where Joe Calzaghe hasn't come forward pressuring his opponent.
makes me laugh that joe calzaghes held in such high regard when talking how he'd fair vs all time greats............. alot of people feel a 43 year old hopkins beat him, people feel a shot robin reid beat him, plus he's looked bad in there with a few average guys, bika hurt and trubled him and so have 1 or 2 others, his record is padded even for todays padded up fighters................i dont think he survive with the fighters mentioned..........its why he's never thought anyone of true greetness in there prime because he's not upto it.......................a 1 dimetional lacy, a standard stand infront of me kessler, tv star manfredo an amaturerish bika and old men hopkins and jones doesn't buy you a winners tickets against legends in there prime
Oh grow up, why are peple jealous of Calzaghe
You say his record is padded, well Hagler was beaten by a retired welter weight and all his notable wins came against welters and light weights
Calzaghe has beaten genuine supermiddles and also moved up to wing the light heavy title![]()
This topic is madness.
Hagler beats Joe any day of the week and infront of a partisan Welsh crowd.
Hearns at his best would be too much for Joe who has never really had one punch power.
Infact the only one I could see Joe beating is Conteh and on a close points decision.
Joe spent too many years beating average opposition like Tocker Pudwill and Mario Veit to prove whether he could beat any of the Greats.
Yet Hagler is shorter and smaller
Calzaghe has gone down while being arrogant, believing his opponents held nothing for him to fear, barring the forearm shothe was right against Jones.
If Joe thinks your a threat he gets down to work and piss's all over you, like he did with Kessler, just the fact he never did any ass shaking against Kessler like he did when Hopkins cried on the floor and Jones hid behind his earmuffs![]()
