Actually yeah you know what? Maybe it worked in comic books in the 70's, Maybe.. But dressing up as a rubber bat in the 2000's is total fashion suicide.. It's very homoerotic and I agree that apart from the cape, it is a gimp suit.. With the cape, it is just over the top gay... He looks like a retro nerd going to a comic book convention in Vegas, not a badass super bad hero that criminals shake in their boots because the "bat" man is coming...

If he was an evil hibrid where he got bitten by a rabbies bat from a nuke testing zone and the he grew like bat wings and fangs and a nasty Valuev hairy chest and back and point ears, and flew in taking chunks out of bad guys, that would be bad ass!! But put it this way, give him a metal throwing knife in the shape of a bat, and he's a bad ass warrior.. Put a whip in his hand and cut out circle for his junk to flop out of, and he's some sick freak in an underground porn movie where some girl mixes 8 mens sperm in a bowl and cracks an egg into it and then drinks it....

How come no one else see's that?

haha so true Diz, I'm baffled by these people who insist it's a dark film. One is dressed as a bat, the other dressed as a clown. They didn't put him in the film to try and keep it dark but of course Batman had a sidekick that looked like this

I laugh my ass off at Amat. He think I'M gay yet believes Batman is 'badass' and cool and not in the least bit camp?

He's the most ridiculous and openly gay superhero ever invented. Seriously who has a sidekick dressed like Robin? Ok so the director decided to remove him from this film, becuase he realised he was too gay, but he's still part of Batman lore, you can't change facts just by not including him.

It's like making a film about George Michael and and omitting all the times he was caught attemtping to wank off cops in public toilets or fucking old men in their vans on Hampstead Heath and instead portraying him as a red blooded hetrosexual serial womaniser.

It just ain't going to work becuase we all know he's a fucking bender

It's "dark" in the sense that the Joker turned the prosecutor/DA into a killer, that was a key part of the story, but I wouldn't call it "brilliant", nor was it anything that could be taken seriously

Exactly, it's just campy sci fun for comic book nerds and virgins, hence Amat is a big fan. Nice to see that most other red blooded males on this site over 15 can at least recognise it for the homoerotic pansy crap that it is

Hold on a sec, you are ascribing meaning to my post that just isn't there. I never said anything about homoerotic pansy crap. I don't consider that I have the expertise to make that kind of judgement.

So you don't think the idea of a man in a bat suit and cape who lives underground and goes to war against a man dressed as a a clown is camp?

Especially when this 'Batman' also has a young boy friend who wears tights and a cape calls himself Robin and they hang out together and fight evil.

Ok so the director thankfully decided not to give Robin any screen time in this film, but he's still there, part of the Bat 'lore' so to speak.

Batman is a gay fetishist, and depending on how old Robin actually is, maybe a very dirty old man indeed.

It's not cool, badass, or clever, it's just very very sad.

I'm not sure how serious you are. It's just comic book stuff. For people who used to like the comics as kids, and are now old enough to handle the blood and guts and violence. Superhero stuff with a few slightly more adult themes. I really don't see too much in the way of oddball sexual overtones. I wouldn't really call it camp, either. To me camp is more like Rocky Horror Picture Show. See the difference?

So if a real life action hero type decided to dress as a bat and wear a cape to fight the bad guys you wouldn't describe him as how shall we put this.....at least a little bit......fruity?

You know, I have a hard time wrapping my brain around the concept of a "real life" action hero type. Can you elaborate a bit?

haha fair point, well I guess I mean anyone with a reputation for being tough. If Slyvestor Stallone or Chuck Norris for example dressed in black PVC and a cape, and wore a mask with bat ears for recreation, and partied with a young acrobatics boy in tights and a mask do you think their careers would have continued in the same vein?

It's gay as fuck, and it's not just my opinon, it's well known in acedemic circles that Batman is a homosexual fantasy, hell Robins real name was Dick after all.

Batman's alter ego Bruce Wayne, is a single, middle aged playboy millionare who lives in a Bat Cave with an old man and whose best friend is some stockings' clad kid from the circus. He's weirder than Michael Jackson surely I'm not the only one who can see this?

Damn, I was prepared to say that if there really was a guy in a batsuit who jumped off tall buildings and brought in a few rapists, murderers, and the odd terrorist, then the public would probably call him a superhero, and would not give a damn about the rest of it.

Aside from that, I don't think Batman was a homo when he was first created, although yeah I suppose anybody who walked into a biker bar wearing a rubber suit and cape might get the bum's rush no pun intended, so point taken there. The Batman in Dark Knight, sure looked like he held a torch for the prosecutor's girlfriend. At one time he obviously boned her.

But that's not necessarily the way it is. Just because some gay fetishists wear rubber suits, doesn't make everyone who wears rubber suits a gay fetishist. But yeah ok, there is an element of truth buried somewhere in your post.

I'm not suggesting that the Batman as portrayed in the Dark Knight is gay, the director has gone out of his way to try and make the film dark and edgy and remove all the campiness.

But what I'm saying is that it's impossible to reinvent a character like this. The Batman character for the last several decades has been notoriously camp and gay. Trying to create a serious, dark, gritty film around him is like trying to create a film about Michael Jackson and his sex conquests amongts the hottest celebrity women. Sure they could take away his child molestation accusations, his Neverland ranch, his fair ground and extensive plastic surgery and just focus the film on his marriage to Elvis Pressley's daughter but we'd all know it was just a crock of shit.

Batman is a bigger bender than an Indian Yogi.

I've no doubt that over the years people have put there own spin on Batman, including a gay spin, but I'm willing to bet that things like gay and camp don't occur to the majority of people out there when they think of Batman, until they have really researched the topic, or heard about it from you.
