It's a fight that will be remembered for years to come.

The others fights mentioned, well the Arce and Mtagwa fights simply arn't significant at all in the scale of things. The results have no real impact on the boxing world, none of the fighters involved were elite and the fights havn't created any shockwaves through the boxing world.

The Vazquez Marquez fight was brilliant, but it was the third in a trilogy and they won fight of the year last year so fair enough that Cotto and Margarito share the honour for 08. It was a memorable, ultra exciting, hard fought, intense battle between two of the world's finest and ended in dramatic fashion, deserving of all the plaudit's it gets imo.
(Can't believe I'm gonna post this...)

Quite possibly one of your better posts since the one from March of last year.
Well done Bilbs keep up the good work.
I really do agree with what you said.

I would have liked Rafa-Izzy III cause I was there ringside but I've got no problems with Cotto-Tony afterall it was a brilliant fight and one that had just as much action and drama as the rest.
I disagree Israel Vasquez was down in the 4th round, then needed a big 12th round to save the fight. He come out in the 12th round and battered Rafael Marquez.

And we was all wondering if Rafael Marquez could stand up, and in the last few seconds he goes down with only the ropes holding him up. It was one of the best fights i've seen in years.

The skill level was higher in the Rafael Marquez/Israel Vasquez 3 fight, it was more dramatic. More action and much more 2 way action. After the 6th round it was all mostly Antonio Margarito.

You could see Miguel Cotto was badly wearing out, and after the 10th i knew Miguel Cotto would get stopped, i watched both fights live and Rafael Marquez/Israel Vasquez 3 for certain had a much more special feeling to me.

Bilbo says Antonio Margarito/Miguel Cotto was a fight between the two best fighters in there division, but so was Rafael Marquez/Israel Vasquez. And they were also both high in the top 10 P4P rankings. Where as Antonio Margarito wasn't nowhere near the top 10 P4P rankings.

So it for certain felt more special to me and and more significant, i know its easy with hindsight but really and truthfully in the later rounds. It was all really Antonio Margarito, and you could sense Miguel Cotto was going to get stopped i know i did.

But in the Rafael Marquez/Israel Vasquez 3 fight it went back/forth so many times, where as Miguel Cotto/Antonio Margarito fight didn't. Who could of predicted Israel Vasquez would of battered Rafael Marquez like that in the 12th round ?

So basically my reasons for Israel Vasquez/Rafael Marquez 3 being a better fight. More action, better skill, knockdowns on both side, more back and forth action, more significant fight, both fighters high in the top 10.
