Could 40 midgets defeat a lion?

Last year an Australian girl was nearly killed necause her hair was mistaken for a lion's mane when she visited the lions while on holiday in Africa. The lion grabbed her from behind and just wanted to play with her - not even trying to attack her, was not angry or aggitated or exerting itself but in a split second did SERIOUS damage.

I'd vote against the midgets and probably even 40 adult humans surviving without any weapons or tools but if they have a rope or some basic tools even if they are not traditional weapons i think they might make it through. Definately not all of them but a few.

Thats crazy. 40 adult humans would result in a serious Lion massacre. Fighting for their lives?

It would be over within 3 minutes.

But that lion is also fighting for his life, he's also has the handy accessory of built in weapons (claws and teeth) which we do not possess. The lion would have a very decent chance of killing 40 fully grown unarmed adults, they are rather big animals after all.
