I actually think in reality that after the first four or five fatalities there would be a standoff. The lion would guard his kills and seek to intimidate the midgets from coming closer but would likely not run around killing them all.

Animals don't have those kind of aggressive fight to the death instincts. He'd likely just want to be left alone.
