He's black, if you saw him you would think he's black. He's a lot easier to confuse for a black guy then he is a white guy. He actually talks at length in his book about not being a flaming homo.

But no you can't just put an asterisk there, interracial couples piss people off waaaayy more then black people do now. Look up how crazy people got when Terrell Owens and I think Nicolette Sheridan did a Monday Night Football skit.

So if anything it's more impressive. But hell Tiger Woods is half asian it doesn't stop him from being categorized as black. How many people do you know who first think of Tiger as being Asian?

We elect one and now you say, no I want you to elect a real one.

I've always considered Tiger Woods to be Asian/Native American, he has less than 25% African ancestory in him. He's not a black man, he's a true mixed race. I consider him Dutch and Chinese as much as I consider him black.


But I will admit, I was suprised when Barak got elected. I do think it's a great thing for progress and hopefully the American economy and foreign relations as well.

Rather sadly (for the UK) I think America are probably more open minded than us as I cannot imagine a black Prime Minister at all. I can't even think of a black or Asian person who has ever reached a high political office in the UK. In fact the most important black person in the UK is probably Trisha

Our political system is firmly entrenched in hereditry peers, public schools and white middle/upper class men.

Firstly, Obama is not black.

He is half white and half black, but to white people that seems to make him black. To Africans, that does not make him a black man.

Still, electing him is a reasonable first step for America to try and come to terms with it's horrific history of race relations..... but, guys, please don't think that this makes everything OK now and start fooling yourselves into thinking that the US does not remain racially divided and that there is great deal of work to do (good start though)

Incidentally, amat usually puts up good posts but I'm going to challenge him on the mixed race thing. When I lived in America I noticed that the different racial groups hardly mixed with each other at all ..... Asians stayed with Asians, blacks with blacks, whites with whites. Equally, and inter-racial dating or marriage was very unusual and was seriously looked down upon.

If that is still the case, then there is a cultural apertheid still going on in that country which is absolutely nothing to be proud of.

It's a bit naive to be saying 'God bless America' just yet ....... and us in the rest of the western world need not get on our high horses either as closet racism is just better hidden behind a wall of PC behaviour and legislation.

Anyway ........ rant over......... and congratulations to America for appearing to vote in a Statesman, not a party politician (who cares what colour he is)
